Cost Controller

What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve :

  • A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
  • Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
  • An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do :

The Cost Controller is responsible for reporting on the cost budget and preparing accurate forecasts to compare with the projected budget. They will investigate variances and discrepancies and seek to correct them in collaboration with the relevant team, in addition to ensuring the processing of supplier invoices, timesheets and subcontractor payments.

Concretely, your tasks will be :

  • Prepare and update the Direct Cost Budget twice per year, managing the Cost Control and the Quantity Surveying teams, and reporting to the Project ControlManager
  • Gatherinformation from departments toreportthe monthly progress of the project, putting together all the information and sharing it with the FinanceDepartment
  • Analyze the Monthly Project Direct Cost by comparing it with the forecasted budget, toidentifydeviations and propose improvements / adjustments to upper management
  • Develop and implement KPIs including productivity,MOand CPI / SPI
  • Work with the accounting team to review actuals posted vs. forecasts
  • Lead the reporting and correct accounting of yourallocatedworkson a monthly / quarterly basisi.e.internal and external (asrequired)
  • Ensure supplier invoices related to yourallocatedworks are processed ona timelybasis
  • Ensure timesheets areaccruedand processed to project including any journal transfers for cost allocations
  • Ensure subcontractor payments are processed ona timelybasis against projects
  • Ensure yourallocatedworks have the correct cost accruals to adjusted costs on a monthly / quarterly basis.
  • Contribute to the reporting and accounting of projects on a monthly / quarterly basisi.e.internal and external (asrequired)
  • Investigate project variances against cost forecast and actual reporting and ensure project management are informed
  • Confer with credit controlregardingunpaid booked costs for yourallocatedworks
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as and whenrequired
  • Ensurecompliance with procedures for managing and optimising financial information flows
  • Collaboratewith the various Project teams to ensure robust financial controls are in place to track projectcosts
  • Analyze, with the operational staff, the differences highlighted by the monitoring between recorded expenses and spending entitlements; defining the causes and proposing corrective or remedialactions
  • Be main point of contact and lead for all cost and accounting matters for yourallocatedworks
  • Continually review and improve current processes for project reporting
  • Supportthe projectin itsobjectivesto ensure the JV meets and continually improves its commitment towards the payment charter
  • Carry out ad- hocadditionalduties, asrequired
  • Your skills :

  • Bachelors degree in business administration with a major in accounting or any other relevantexperience
  • 5-8 years of experience as a mid-level manager in an administrative department accounting and cost control
  • CA or CGAcertification
  • Advanced knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal communicationskills
  • Strong capacity for teamwork and excellent leadershipskills
  • Ability to manage accountingstaff
  • Initiative, resourcefulness andautonomy

  • About Dodin Qubec :

    A subsidiary of the VINCI Group, Dodin Qubec specializes in the management and execution of complex infrastructure projects, including transportation infrastructure (bridges and underground works), energy infrastructure, functional structures, environmental projects, and hydraulic infrastructure. We are currently involved in three major construction projects in Canada and the United States, valued at several billion Canadian dollars.

  • The Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine Bridge-Tunnel Project includes a major structural overhaul, modernization of operating equipment, and redesign of service corridors, as well as the addition of fire protection. In addition to the tunnel work, the project also includes the construction of 25 kilometres of preferential traffic measures on Highway 20 to the Richelieu River, the reconstruction of Highway 25 concrete slabs in two directions (a total of 13 km of roadway), and structural repairs to the Souligny Interchange.
  • The Confederation Line extension to Ottawa is a component of Phase 2 of the city's O-Train system, which includes the design, construction, and financing of a 27.5-kilometre light rail infrastructure. The work also includes 4 kilometres of cut-and-cover tunnels, 20 engineering structures, 16 stations, and a light maintenance facility.
  • The Hampton Roads Bridge and Tunnel Extension is the largest highway construction project in Virginia history. This transformative project will widen the existing four-lane segments of the I-64 corridor for nearly 16 km in Norfolk and Hampton, with new twin tunnels crossing the harbor.
