Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ per hour.
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ per hour.
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
Reporting to the Course Instructor, the duties and responsibilities of the Course Coordinator will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement.
Course Coordinator duties include: troubleshoot technical problems students have accessing Brightspace, the Pearson textbook and the Mastering Geography site; preparation and posting of online course materials onto the Brightspace platform; frequent consultation with Teaching Assistants to provide advice and direction regarding course matters; responding promptly to emails and other forms of messaging from the Course Instructor, Teaching Assistants, and students; assisting the Course Instructor in troubleshooting technical difficulties; grade entry in the Gradebook and Brock DB; and other course administration as required.
Qualifications
a) Must hold an Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Human Geography or equivalent*
b) Demonstrated successful experience working with undergraduate students as a Teaching Assistant in Human Geography courses
c) Excellent working knowledge of the various features of the Brightspace learning management system
d) Strong and tactful written and oral communication skills
e) Strong interpersonal skills
f) Ability to prioritize work and meet all agreed-upon deadlines, as per the Allocation of Hours document
*Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor. Applicant must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
