Description
The Lead Recreation Support provides essential assistance to the Brock Recreation department. This role supports administrative functions, program development, community engagement, and staff training initiatives. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to represent the department professionally at
events and outreach activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The position holds an important role with the recreation department, being role models and mentors for our staff. The
position reports to the Supervisor, Welcome Desk, and assists with various functions in the recreation department, in a leadership capacity by supporting several initiatives and operations. The candidate will be responsible for helping to maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment while creating meaningful and fun experiences for all
participants. Additional responsibilities for an effective recreation instructor include:
• Provide administrative support including scheduling, document preparation, data entry, and assisting with
special projects and program and training development.
• Support monthly communications such as preparing and distributing the BSR Monthly Newsletter.
• Serve as a welcoming presence for participants and visitors, responding to inquiries and providing program
information, while assisting welcome desk staff.
• Investigate and troubleshoot ACTIVE Net functionality to support program registration and reporting.
• Assist with organizing and delivering ACTIVE Net training for staff.
• Represent the department at tabling events and outreach activities to promote programs and services.
• Support BU4U engagement initiatives to enhance student and community involvement.
• Organize area-specific trainings (, In-Service) and maintain accurate training records.
• Assist with onboarding and ongoing staff development sessions.
• Contribute to, assist with and lead special projects and partnerships, including initiatives with the
department’s SHSM and Volunteer programs, to enhance recreation offerings.
Qualifications
• Completed at least two years of post-secondary study.
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience in related recreation programs.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ACTIVE Net or similar registration systems preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership role within recreation programs is an asset.
• Candidates must obtain First Aid/CPR Level C and a vulnerable sector police clearance prior to beginning
• Successful completion of all Brock University and departmental training ( AODA, WHMIS, content specific,
risk management)
• Previous experience in recreation, community engagement, or customer service is an asset.

• Maintain staff training provided and attendance at staff meetings.
• Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in handling participant information and departmental data.
