Job description

This is a remote position.

We are recruiting on behalf of a confidential client in the mortgage brokerage industry.

Our client is seeking a licensed, detail-driven Senior Mortgage Underwriter to support growing volume in a high-performing brokerage environment. This is a hands-on underwriting role focused on structuring, submitting, and advancing files through approval and funding—while delivering a client experience that protects the team’s 5-star reputation. The successful candidate must reside and work within the PST or MST time zone (with preference for candidates licensed in Alberta). With 27+ years of lending experience, the Team Lead is committed to building a strong, collaborative team that learns continuously, works efficiently, and genuinely enjoys the work.

As an integral part of the team, there is also an opportunity to underwrite and fund a small number of your own files, maintaining a modest personal book of business alongside core underwriting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite 15+ files per month (applications and pre-approvals) through Finmo, with administrative support and CRM automation in place to streamline client updates and document collection.

  • Drive deals from “live” to close—secure lender approval, manage conditions, and proactively resolve issues to keep files moving and timelines on track.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, lenders, and internal stakeholders, escalating risks, gaps, or concerns early.

  • Deliver a 5-star client experience through responsiveness, accuracy, and calm confidence—ensuring clients feel informed, supported, and well cared for at every stage.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of mortgage industry experience, with a demonstrated high-level understanding of the end-to-end underwriting process.

  • Strong underwriting expertise, including product knowledge, rental offset calculations, and debt consolidation.

  • Familiarity with a broad lender landscape, including A, B, and private lenders.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written), with the confidence to pick up the phone when needed.

  • Highly organized and detail-obsessed (in the best way) - takes full ownership to ensure accuracy, compliance, and smooth file flow.

  • High integrity and discretion, with the ability to handle confidential client information professionally.

  • Strong technical proficiency, including fast, accurate typing and comfort working across mortgage/CRM documentation systems.

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively, consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Active BC or AB mortgage license (required).

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (asset).
