Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Complete deliveries and pick-ups promptly in Cranbrook and the surrounding area, adhering to scheduled routes and timeframes
  • Use a handheld device to scan the freight to document shortages and any damages, and collect signatures.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with DOT regulations
  • Operate vehicles safely and efficiently, following all traffic laws and company policies
  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours and mileage using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
  • Load and unload cargo carefully, ensuring proper handling of goods and materials
  • Secure cargo properly using appropriate tie-downs, straps, or other securing devices
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other team members
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise during deliveries or pick-ups
  • Maintain a clean and organized vehicle, both inside the cab and the cargo area
  • Report any vehicle maintenance issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel
  • Assist in route planning and optimization when necessary
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Participate in ongoing training and safety meetings as required
  • Be flexible with working hours, as shifts run from 6 AM to 4 PM daily, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required
  • Represent the company professionally at all times, maintaining a positive attitude and appearance


Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 license
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in commercial driving
  • Physically fit and able to lift and handle heavy items
  • Reliable and dependable with excellent time management skills
  • TDG, WHMIS, and Forklift experience are an asset
  • Must be able to provide a criminal record check, driver's abstract, and 2 work-related references
  • Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3 years
  • Excellent knowledge of local roads and traffic patterns in Cranbrook and surrounding areas
  • Strong safety consciousness and adherence to all transportation regulations
  • Proficient in using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a professional demeanor
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle inspections and minor troubleshooting
