This role ensures accurate financial reporting, budgeting, strong internal controls, cost visibility, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
The Controller partners closely with Operations and Supply Chain to support operational efficiency, margin optimization, and informed decision making.
Reporting to the VP Finance and IT, the Controller plays a key role in translating manufacturing activity into timely, reliable financial information.
Day to Day Working Conditions: Based at a corporate office, with periodic travel to manufacturing sites as required.
Standard business hours with flexibility during month‑end, year‑end, and critical operational periods.
Responsibilities: Oversee all milling accounting functions (GL, inventory, payables, fixed assets).
Ensure accurate and timely financial closes and statements.
Maintain strong internal controls and support internal/external audits.
Lead standard costing, variance analysis, and margin reporting.
Partner with Operations to assess production costs, yields, shrink, and efficiencies.
Manage inventory valuation (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
Support pricing, profitability analysis, and continuous improvement.
Support annual budgets and forecasts for milling operations.
Provide analysis to explain operational and financial performance.
Ensure compliance with ASPE, tax requirements, and corporate policies.
Collaborate with Corporate Reporting, Tax, and Treasury.
Maintain documentation for accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
Lead and develop the milling accounting team.
Serve as a finance partner to Operations and part of the senior accounting team.
Support ERP/reporting systems and drive process improvements, automation, and data accuracy.
Required Qualifications CPA designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) required.
Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to manufacturing or milling environments.
Strong background in cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing.
Experience in food manufacturing, agribusiness, or grain/milling operations is a strong asset.
Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel / financial reporting tools.
