Who You Will Work With:
Reporting to the Director, Product Development, the Software Development Intern role will be working with our backend service development team to build new features, documentation, and to enhance existing feature. We areseekinga motivated and detail-oriented Software Development Intern to join our backend service development team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to real-world projects that power Interac’s products and services.

As a Software Development Intern, you will work closely with the e-Transfer team to support the development and modernization of our backend systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Hands-on experience with backend service development in a high-impact environment
  • Exposure to modern software development practices and tools
  • Opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects that shape the future of digital payments
  • Mentorship and collaboration with experienced developers and technical leaders
  • Collaborating with developers to build new features and enhance existing ones
  • Improving unit test coverage to ensure code quality and reliability
  • Assistingin the consolidation and standardization of technical documentation
  • Supporting the team’s journey throughapplicationmodernization initiatives
  • Exploring emerging technologies and contributing to development tasks related to payment system architecture

What You Bring:

  • Currently completing an undergraduate degree from a creditable Canadian institution with a focus on computer science, softwareengineeringor similar field
  • Experience and understanding of programming languages, databases, unit testing, code management tools
  • Possesunderstanding of concepts of unit testing, application logging
  • Knowledge in JavaSpringbootis an advantage – you will be working in Javaspringbootframework and therefore you should be willing to learn and grow your skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Attention to detail, especially in documentation and testing
  • Proficiencyin at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python or OOP)
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend service development
  • Basic knowledge of unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit,pytest)
  • Experience using version control systems like Git
  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies

Although notrequired, you have some familiarity orpreviousexperience with the following:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

  • Understanding of microservices architecture

  • Exposure to containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes

  • Knowledge of payment systems or financial technologies

  • Experience writing ormaintainingtechnical documentation

  • Interest or experience working with machine learning and/or data analytics

The hourly pay range for this position is $23to $25, and the internship term runs fromSeptember to December 2026. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge. An internship opportunity atInteracalso features:
