Job description4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance Strong hands-on experience with financial reporting and month-end close Experience with cost accounting and inventory management. Advanced Excel skills; strong experience with QuickBooks Experience working in a start-up, scale-up, or small team environment. Comfortable building systems and processes from scratch CPA designation Experience in hardware, manufacturing, or inventory-driven businesses. Experience with SR&ED or government R&D grants. On-site presence required initially due to hardware and operational complexity. Hybrid work as systems and team mature. Be the first finance hire at a fast-growing robotics company. The Opportunity
This is a foundational role for a hands-on, strategic finance professional. In the first 6–12 months, the Financial Controller will personally own accounting, controls, and reporting. Over time, this role will evolve into Head of Finance / Director of Finance, including building and leading the finance team.
You will work closely with the CEO and leadership team and play a central role in establishing financial discipline, transparency, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full accounting cycle including bookkeeping, monthly close, and financial statements.
- Implement financial controls, policies, and approval workflows.
- Manage cash, treasury, and liquidity planning.
- Build cost accounting and inventory controls for a hardware business.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Prepare management, board, and investor reporting.
- Manage relationships with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors.
- Select, implement, and manage finance systems and ERP as the company scales.
- Hire and lead the finance team as growth requires.
