Position Engineer, Development Engineering
Shift : 40 hours | Full-time
Department Development Engineering
Location Richmond, BC, Canada
Salary Range : 85,00- 90,000 CAD Annually
Reports to Engineering Manager, Development Engineering
Purpose
The Engineers role is to design, build, and test new water-based amusement rides and devices, ensuring safety and reliability, with a strong focus on quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
The successful candidate will become an integral part of the cross-functional Development Core Team and will provide direct support to the respective Development Lead. By performing duties relating to design, documentation, prototyping, validation, and project management, the candidate will be a key contributor to the deployment of leading-edge new products.
Essential Responsibilities
Support the Development Lead throughout the Product Development Stage Gate Process by performing activities related to design, documentation, prototyping, validation, and project management.
Design new parts and assemblies for various water-based product lines.
Design, build, and evaluate prototypes and test models, including preparation of test plans and test reports.
Acquire and post-process test data in accordance with best practices.
Ensure engineering documentation is complete, including drawings, BOMs, reports, and manuals.
Review and approve engineering deliverables for new products, following engineering and design best practices.
Lead and / or participate in design reviews, Design Risk Assessments (DRA), and Failure Mode Effects and Analyses (FMEA).
Support the Development Lead with project management activities, including budgeting, resourcing, and schedule management.
Contribute to the creation of product requirements and ensure new designs meet safety, economic, ergonomic, and aesthetic requirements.
Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on design and prototype activities, as well as provide remote support to field staff to resolve issues with new products.
Periodically travel to site to perform reviews, testing, or commissioning of new products.
Follow the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
Use of Non-Compliance Reporting (NCR) / Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
3-5 years of design experience, preferably within a product development environment. Experience within the amusement industry considered an asset.
Bachelors degree in engineering, or relevant technical degree or diploma. Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Engineering Physics are preferred, but other disciplines will be considered based on qualifications and experience.
Experience or familiarity with :
Analytical and numerical analysis including Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Design for manufacture and assembly.
Conducting FMEAs or Risk Assessments
Creating Engineering drawings including GD&T in accordance with established standards and best practices.
Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Proficient with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD preferred)
Proficient with Microsoft Office product suite.
The following experience would be considered an asset :
Designing materials for corrosive environments.
Manufacturing processes for metals, including welding and machining.
Manufacturing processes relating to plastics and / or composites.
Rapid prototyping techniques.
Design of structures and structural members.
Project management.
Programming languages (C#, Python, VBA).
Hands-on experience building and testing equipment.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Must be able to travel worldwide without restrictions.
