Overview
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Policy Development Lead, reporting to the Manager or designate, will lead and support the maintenance, analysis and development of clinical and / or corporate policy documents (policy, procedures, protocols and guidelines) in accordance with Island Health's Policy Framework. The Policy Development Lead works with program areas to ensure their policy document inventories are effectively managed. This role will assist program areas in the creation, implementation, communication, education and evaluation of policy documents, ultimately ensuring robust and evidence-based policy documents are produced and maintained.

Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related health discipline, public policy administration, English (composition), or communications and five (5) years’ recent related experience including two (2) years’ experience in policy development, implementation, and evaluation.

- Exceptional business writing, clinical document writing, and editorial abilities.
- Strong project management skills, including ability to engage and manage partners and interested parties in a respectful, tactful and effective manner.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complicated and technical information into easily understandable content and recommendations.
- Effectively utilizes creativity to develop, implement and evaluate innovative policy and related materials, taking into consideration the impact on health care outcomes.
- Effectively acts as a change agent for the introduction and implementation of innovative and creative ideas, tools, templates and processes.
- Demonstrates effective negotiation / mediation skills and / or the application of effective conflict negotiation / resolution skills to build consensus among groups.
- Exhibits excellent time management skills to prioritize and complete assignments and schedule activities.
- Self-motivated and self-sufficient; work well independently but also as part of a larger team.
- Strong communication, organization, note-taking, and presentation skills.
