Our valued healthcare client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Intermediate Solution Architect to provide solution architecture and design

Initial 6-month contract (% remote in EST). 7.25 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

As the successful candidate, you will combine strong hands-on data engineering expertise with solution architecture experience, helping design and implement enhancements while supporting operational data delivery initiatives. This role is best suited for an individual who enjoys balancing architecture and design responsibilities with hands-on development and troubleshooting activities.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement enhancements to an existing AWS-based analytics platform
• Support operational data delivery initiatives and onboarding of new data assets
• Develop and maintain data processing pipelines using AWS analytics services and Apache Spark
• Collaborate with ETL developers, analytical administrators, architects, and business stakeholders
• Provide solution architecture guidance for data integration, transformation, and dissemination solutions
• Support data access and reporting capabilities across the platform
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to data ingestion, processing, and delivery
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure design and deployment using Infrastructure-as-Code approaches
• Ensure data security, privacy, and governance standards are incorporated into solution designs
• Mentor technical team members and provide architectural guidance where required

Must Have Skills:

• Demonstrated experience designing and supporting data and analytics solutions within AWS
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including:
• Amazon EMR (including EMR Serverless)
• Amazon Redshift / Redshift Serverless
• Amazon S3
• AWS Glue
• AWS Lambda
• AWS Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA)
• AWS IAM
• AWS CloudFormation
• Strong experience developing data pipelines using Apache Spark and Python
• Experience working with Jupyter Notebooks
• Experience with Apache Hive, Parquet file formats, and large-scale data processing
• Experience implementing or supporting modern data lake or lakehouse architectures
• Experience integrating multiple cloud services into end-to-end data solutions
• Strong understanding of API-based data integration and data dissemination patterns
• Experience supporting both solution design and hands-on implementation activities
• Strong understanding of data security principles, including protection of sensitive and regulated data

Nice-to-have Skills:

• Demonstrated experience in the healthcare industry
• Experience with AWS Lake Formation
• Experience supporting enterprise analytics or reporting platforms
• Experience within highly regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, or public sector environments
• Experience working with DevOps tools including GitLab, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience supporting enterprise data governance initiatives
