The Data Sciences Institute (DSI) is a specialized research initiative at the University that draws on world-class research expertise across multiple academic divisions, affiliated hospitals, regional, national, and international academic partners, and commercial organizations. The mission of the DSI is to provide the leadership and capacity to catalyze the transformative nature of data sciences across disciplines, leveraging and strengthening U of T’s preeminence in data sciences to solve society’s complex problems. DSI aims to unify and galvanize the core strengths of Toronto’s data science community building capacity for data and computational-based research and training by being the focal point for thecoordination of data science and AI activities and partnerships to further elevate UofT’s global stature.

DSI, in collaboration with national partners, is the recipient of a prestigious NSERC CREATE award to launch a Canada-wide program to support core training and research areas that are central to future breakthroughs in biomedical science. STAGE will bring together experts in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, computer science, AI, population health and other research areas totrain graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to work across disciplinary boundaries. The goal of STAGE is to equip fellows with both technical depth and professional skills so they can translate complex genomic data into meaningful scientific and health insights within academia, healthcare, industry, and government.



Your opportunity:

The STAGE Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in promoting, coordinating, supporting and advancing the STAGE training program. This role is critical for the consistent and equitable operation of a large-scale, multi-institutional training initiative. The Coordinator will support the operational and logistical implementation of the STAGE program, including managing applications, selection processes, and awards; support the governance committees; liaise with regional nodes; respond to inquiries; administer evaluations and surveys; operationalize and organize events; and, prepare quarterly and annual reports forthe program’s targets and financial requirements The Program Coordinator will report to the DSI Director, working closely with the STAGE Committee co-leads. The role works closely with the CANSSI ON Communications and Program Officer, and DSI staff to support the execution of applications and promotions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting detailed data analysis to inform recruitment strategies and plans and preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing plans that support recruitment strategies and tracking the status of applications
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Applying established standards when confirming eligibility and determining which applications to refer to committee for selection
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities; conducting post-event evaluation and analysis
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, preparing meeting agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in sciences, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience. A graduate degree in sciences is an asset.
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent and relevant experience implementing and supporting training programs and promotional strategies in a University or academic environment.
  • Experience drafting academic-specific communications (calls, recipient announcements, newsletter and reviewing web copy).
  • Experience working with faculty members and scientists
  • Experience developing professional programming for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Experience with tri-agency grant requirements and reporting, including financial reporting.
  • Excellent experience writing and editing content.
  • Experience in launching online program application platforms, including incorporatingEDI requirements.
  • Experience conceptualizing, organizing, and executing logistics for in-person and online events — seminar series, lecture series, workshops, and annual symposiums at multiple host institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience indeveloping briefing documents, presentations, financial reports, and coordinating committee materials
  • Outstanding skills in writing and editing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while taking direction and having sound judgement on when to escalate.
