Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

Kinectrics is seeking Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineers to deliver engineering expertise in support of power generation utilities and other clients in a highly regulated environment. This role is part of the Design & Engineering Services (DES) team and will primarily support a range of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Waste Management projects. This role involves providing technical leadership, analysis, and design support across the full project lifecycle - from conceptual development through detailed design, implementation, and close-out.

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, construction and procurement partners, and utility stakeholders to deliver safe, practical, and high-quality electrical and control system solutions for nuclear and conventional power facilities.

To deliver Electrical, Instrumentation & Control engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  • Perform condition assessments and prepare specifications, design changes, and drawing markups for electrical equipment, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, electric motors, motor control centers (MCCs), generators, and other power plant systems.
  • Apply strong expertise in electrical and/or I&C engineering disciplines, including power generation and distribution and control system design.
  • Design, analyze, and assess control systems and associated equipment, including control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), advanced control theory etc.
  • Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection.
  • Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate.
  • Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight, particularly for senior-level roles.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, codes, standards, and best practices within the electrical and I&C fields.
  • Support proposal development, client presentations, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Assist / support with OPG ECC process and Asset Suite
  • Regular travel / visits to client sites are required for walkdowns. Travel to other GTA locations may be required occasionally.
  • Perform other duties as required

What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Electrical / I&C Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • Minimum experience: Senior Engineer / Analyst: 8+ years
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering.
  • Good knowledge of CANDU design and/or PWRs, PHWRs, and BWRs
  • Experience in heavy industry or nuclear refurbishment projects is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plants and conventional plants.
  • Experience in control system theory, analysis and design is required
  • Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and processes (e.g., OPG, Bruce Power, NB Power), including Engineering Change Control, is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects to successful completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively in a project-driven environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, collaborate effectively, and contribute as a team player.
  • Field Team Lead experience is considered an asset.
  • Innovative, motivated, and enthusiastic, with a strong interest in working in a dynamic engineering consulting environment.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
