This role partners closely with manufacturing leadership to integrate EHS requirements into daily operations, maintain audit readiness, meet performance objectives, and drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental compliance, and employee engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage environmental permitting, inspections, and regulatory reporting including air, water, and waste programs.
  • Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements across sites.
  • Oversee stormwater and wastewater compliance and reporting.
  • Conduct and support environmental inspections and audits.

Health & Safety Programs

  • Partner with manufacturing leaders to maintain safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplaces.
  • Develop, manage, and execute the annual safety calendar.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of process safety documentation including SDS.
  • Monitor employee health exposures including noise, dust, and other occupational exposure assessments.

Incident Management & Risk Mitigation

  • Lead accident and incident investigations and implement corrective actions to completion across multiple sites.
  • Perform root cause analysis using methodologies such as 5-Why.
  • Identify and implement improvements to environmental, health, and safety systems and procedures.
  • Participate actively in plant operations to resolve safety, quality, cost, and productivity issues.

Workers’ Compensation & Return-to-Work

  • Manage WSIB/workers’ compensation claims and coordinate with physicians, adjudicators, and employees.
  • Develop and oversee safe return-to-work plans that align with medical restrictions.

Training, Coaching & Capability Building

  • Identify EHS training needs and deliver training through internal resources or external consultants.
  • Train employees on PPE, LOTO, ergonomics, hazardous materials handling, and environmental procedures.
  • Coach leaders and employees on safe work practices and risk awareness.
  • Transfer technical EHS knowledge to strengthen organizational capability.

Leadership, Governance & Engagement

  • Lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) as management chair.
  • Support employee engagement, safety leadership, and recognition initiatives.
  • Conduct area and line audits to reinforce safety standards and accountability.

Enterprise & Multi-Site Support

  • Partner with the AWI EHS Regional Manager to integrate sites into enterprise EHS systems and leading indicators.
  • Provide proactive EHS technical support across multiple Canadian sites.
  • Serve as an on-call EHS site contact as needed.

What Will Make You Successful

  • Strong ability to integrate EHS practices into daily manufacturing operations.
  • A proactive mindset focused on risk identification, prevention, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to lead investigations and implement corrective actions that reduce risk long term.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills to influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive measurable results aligned with EHS KPIs and operational objectives.
  • Collaborative leadership style that builds strong partnerships with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to building a strong safety culture and high employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario MOL, WSIB, and JHSC requirements.
  • Experience with environmental regulatory compliance programs including air, water, waste, and occupational health.
  • Proven experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience supporting production operations to maintain regulatory compliance and drive improvement.
  • Familiarity with exposure monitoring including noise and dust monitoring.

  • Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong documentation and recordkeeping practices with ability to leverage technology for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse manufacturing environment.

What Makes You Stand Out
