Job Summary
The Stores Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Surface and Underground Stores departments at the Ojibway Mine. This role ensures the efficient receipt, storage, inventory control, and distribution of parts and materials required to support maintenance and production activities.
The position maintains accurate inventory levels, ensures compliance with safety and company policies, and supervises unionized employees in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. The Stores Supervisor works closely with maintenance, procurement, and finance teams to ensure inventory availability while optimizing stock levels and minimizing obsolete materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
Stores Operations
- Supervise the daily operations of the Surface and Underground Stores departments.
- Ensure the accurate receiving, storage, and distribution of materials, parts, and consumables.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support operational requirements and prevent stockouts.
- Ensure proper material storage practices, including labeling, bin locations, and housekeeping standards.
- Coordinate with maintenance and procurement teams to ensure timely replenishment of critical parts.
- Oversee inventory management within SAP, ensuring accurate data entry and material tracking.
Inventory Management
- Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Ensure proper inventory rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices where applicable.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Track inventory turnover and work with the Materials Manager and Plant Controller to identify slow-moving or obsolete stock.
- Support the identification and management of critical spare parts inventory.
Purchasing
- Manage inventory replenishment through purchasing activities, including RFQs, purchase order processing, and evaluation of new versus rebuilt component replacement options.
- Interacting with vendors, developing and maintaining positive relations.
- Provide supplemental purchasing support for ad hoc items and non-routine procurement needs as required. This includes coordinating expedited orders.
Leadership and Supervision
- Provide daily leadership, direction, and supervision to unionized Stores personnel.
- Ensure work assignments, scheduling, and performance expectations align with the applicable collective agreement.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence within the Stores department.
Safety Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the Stores team.
- Conduct Planned Job Observations (PJOs) and support ongoing safety initiatives.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and report potential hazards and participate in corrective action processes.
- Ensure safe operation of material handling equipment and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Financial and Inventory Control
- Support effective inventory investment management by monitoring stock levels and inventory turnaround.
- Work with the Plant Controller to review inventory valuation, identify obsolete or non-moving materials, and develop strategies to reduce excess inventory.
- Participate in inventory planning related to critical spares, major equipment components, and operational consumables.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in inventory management, preferably within the mining or manufacturing industries.
- Experience using SAP or similar ERP inventory management systems.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance, procurement, and finance teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
Preferred
- Strong knowledge of inventory control practices, including cycle counting, stock management, annual auditing processes, and FIFO inventory practices.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience, preferably within a unionized work environment.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- This role supports both Surface and Underground Stores operations.
- Surface Stores work includes both indoor and outdoor storage environments with exposure to weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
- The role will also support Underground Stores operations, which will require working in an underground mining environment approximately one day per week.
- The position may require lifting, moving materials, operating underground vehicles such as golf carts or UTVs, and working around heavy equipment in an industrial mining setting.
The expected annual compensation for this position is $77,605 - $104,995. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, or location.
