Position Description

Our client, a well-established advanced manufacturer, is seeking a Manufacturing Planner (on days) to support the smooth and efficient flow of materials, production schedules, and outsourced services across a multi-shift operation. This role blends strategic purchasing with hands-on production planning to ensure customer orders are delivered on time and to specification.

The ideal candidate enjoys balancing supplier management, data accuracy, and schedule coordination while playing a central role in keeping the entire production process running seamlessly.

Manufacturing and Production Planning

  • Create manufacturing/production work orders and release them to the shop floor with accurate routing, quantities, and scheduling details.
  • Schedule work orders in the ERP system to meet sales order due dates and support on-time delivery performance.
  • Coordinate nesting priorities with programming teams to optimize material utilization and workflow.
  • Monitor material readiness and ensure all required inputs reach manufacturing/production on schedule, supporting lean manufacturing practices.
  • Provide up-to-date manufacturing/production schedules during daily and weekly meetings with operations leadership.

Purchasing and Supplier Coordination

  • Issue and manage purchase orders generated through MRP, ensuring delivery dates, quantities, and specifications are accurate.
  • Maintain clean and reliable ERP data for purchasing and scheduling activities.
  • Align incoming materials and outsourced services with manufacturing/production timelines to avoid delays and bottlenecks.
  • Work with suppliers to address late deliveries, shortages, or quality concerns that could affect manufacturing output or customer commitments.
  • Support the Supply Chain Manager with analysis of usage trends, lead time changes, alternate supplier options, and shifting market conditions.
  • Prepare monthly inventory reports and assist with managing excess or obsolete stock.
  • Maintain component inventory levels using MIN MAX principles and demand run rate analysis.
  • Participate in new supplier assessments with Quality and Engineering teams as part of the vendor approval process.

Qualifications

  • Experience with purchasing and manufacturing/production planning processes, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems and an understanding of data accuracy in scheduling.
  • Knowledge of capacity planning, work center scheduling, and general manufacturing/production workflows.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and customers.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication is an asset.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative team player with a customer service focus and a positive attitude.

Education

  • High school or college diploma combined with at least 5 years of relevant experience in purchasing, planning, or supply chain coordination.
  • PMAC or APICS accreditation is an advantage.
