Job description

Your Opportunity

Team Leaders at Stantec are purpose‑driven leaders and future builders of our business. As a front‑line people leader, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the next generation of talent — creating clarity, opportunity, and momentum for individuals as they grow their careers. You’ll position both the people and the business for long-term success, while fostering a culture of trust, engagement, and continuous development.

Stantec is seeking a Team Leader to lead our Biophysical and Assessment & Permitting team across Atlantic Canada. Reporting to the Operating Leader (OL) and partnering closely with Business Centre Practice Leaders (BCPLs), this role is a key part of our leadership succession strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Align appropriate resources and technical support for project backlog and business development opportunities in collaboration with business centre and sector leadership.

  • Partner with team members to proactively resolve personnel, resourcing, and project-related issues to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Provide day-to-day people leadership, including performance management, coaching, and recruitment, with accountability for project execution and quality.

  • Lead the annual performance review process for direct reports in accordance with company policy.

  • Contribute technical expertise to environmental services projects, including business development, client relationship management, and project or discipline leadership.

  • Support planning, execution, and monitoring of projects to achieve key financial metrics, including utilization and work-in-progress/accounts receivable management.

  • Assist in meeting or exceeding budgeted net revenue targets through effective project delivery and resource optimization.

  • Support staff integration and collaboration across disciplines and regional teams to enable efficient, high-quality project execution.

  • Champion a strong safety culture and support training initiatives, ensuring all project activities comply with health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) requirements.

  • Work from the office a minimum of three days per week.

  • Travel to other offices as business needs require.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment, with hands-on leadership or people management experience in a project-based setting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide, motivate, and support team members.

  • Solid problem-solving, organizational, collaboration, and coordination skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.

Education and Experience

Degree or diploma in Environmental Sciences or a related discipline.

Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience, including progressively increased responsibility.

Working knowledge of project management best practices, with experience applying health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) requirements in day-to-day work.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.
