Job description

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Location: 11 Queen Street,North Sydney, NS

Responsible to: Registered Nurse, Care Coordinator, or Director of Resident Care

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents in accordance with the standards of practice established by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing and the policies and procedures of The Northside Community Guest Home. Working collaboratively with Registered Nurses and the interdisciplinary team, the LPN promotes safe, competent, ethical, and person-centred care. This is a casual position that provides coverage for days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other operational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents in a long-term care setting.
  • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide nursing care and support residents with activities of daily living as required.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement personalized care plans.
  • Assess and document residents' health status, progress, and changes in condition.
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable environment, promoting residents' overall well-being.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and colleagues to foster positive relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration and good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Registration in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Experience in long-term care or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices and procedures.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check completed prior to employment.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including frequent lifting, transferring, repositioning, pushing, pulling, bending, and prolonged standing and walking.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to maintaining resident confidentiality and privacy
