About the Role:

Reporting to Associate Director, Co-op Education & Workplace Partnerships the Manager, Student Talent Development oversees and leads co-op career education programming, training and the development strategy of co-op students as they prepare for their job search and co-op experiences. The incumbent leads a team of professionals in developing and delivering tailored co-op career curriculum focused on skill identification, articulation, and job search readiness and aligning programming with labor market trends to achieve co-op employment targets and student satisfaction.

The Manager, Student Talent Development ensures teamwork, oversees co-op career education initiatives, research career theory, labour market and employment trends. The incumbent provides training to their team and faculty that leads to greater retention of students, increased students’ satisfaction of their co-op experience, and tailored programming that are aligned with labour market trends.

The Manager, Student Talent Development will:

  • Design, develop, maintain and continuously enhance career curriculum, programming, models and resources for co-op students in collaboration with CCEE colleagues (Integrate career development theories, labour market / recruitment trends, and EDI best practices into all materials). Programming includes but is not limited to undergraduate and graduate co-professional preparation courses;
  • Develop and implement consistent processes and service level standards on all aspects of student touch points through their preparation for skill identification and articulation and job search preparation cycles;
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate career-centric programming for all co-op students and ensure an effective and seamless transition within the co-op team regarding co-op students’ progress of their talent development as they move through their co-op journey;
  • Collaborate with CCEE teams, faculty, management, and other internal/external partners to understand needs, provide expert guidance, customize career education, lead strategic projects, and ensure alignment with university goals and market demands;
  • Implement quality control measures for all career programming and resources; and
  • Research and remain current on relevant trends (labour market, recruitment, technology/AI, student employment issues) to inform strategy;
  • Lead, direct, and motivate team members by developing and facilitating training programs in career development theory, best practices, delivery models, recruitment/employment trends, job search processes (networking, negotiation, etc.), and career-based reflection practices;
  • Advise CCEE staff on research, best practices, and effective delivery strategies grounded in career development theory;
  • Manage the operation and integration of AI technology (, Vmock, etc.) throughout the co-op journey of a student and liaise with the third-party vendor to ensure the full integration of the system with our standards;
  • Maintain information database (, CareerZone) for qualitative and quantitative report on the progress of employer development and engagement;
  • Provide comprehensive career coaching to students though individual appointments, workshops and interviews practices, including reviewing and providing feedback on resumes/ cover letters, training on skill identification/articulation, developing targeted interview questions, and suggestions for improvement in job search and self-marketing strategies; and
  • Participate, represent, and support work related activities, including Ontario Universities Fair – Toronto, Spring Open House – on campus, Fall Open House – on campus, Co-op Professional Preparation Course (undergraduate and graduate) and Faculty Events as they occur.

This position may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate Degree in a relevant discipline, such as Human Resources, Communications, Curriculum Development, Psychology, or Adult Education and/or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in a career advising and/or a curriculum and workshop development role;
  • Supervisory/management experience;
  • Knowledge of co-op, career development theory, methods and practices;
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of adult education, experiential learning models, and academic curriculum;
  • Proficient with various technology and platforms such as DB Brock, Sakai, CareerZone, Office 365 suites (Teams, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and AI technology;
  • Knowledge of industry trends and labour market demand for all co-op programs;
  • Experience with resume and cover letter screening/development, and conducting interviews/providing feedback;
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;
  • Advanced communications skills (verbal, written and interpersonal), including professional facilitation;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, coach, motivate, advise, and strategizing career planning objectives;
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build instant rapport with clients and build/maintain professional relationships;
  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities to provide advice and recommendations to students with all aspects of the Co-op/Career process;
  • Ability to develop workshops and tools that support career education curriculum; and
  • Strong organization and critical thinking skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Career Development Practitioner’s certification;
  • National WIL Certification; and
  • Professional resume writing certification.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($73,245 - $118,776);
  • Target Hiring Range: $73,245 - $80,000*
  • This is a Fixed Term Contract position that includes:
