About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Student Talent Development, theCareer Development Consultantis responsible for coordinating, organizing and facilitating the co-op professional preparation courses using the career educationcurriculum. The incumbent provides informationand guidance to undergraduate and graduate level co-op students (and students participating in work integrated learning) through individual and group consultations to support employment preparation skills and career readiness to increase the probability of employability within the ever-changing job market.

The Career Development Consultant designs and delivers career education curriculum including competency-based programming using innovative teaching and learning practices. The incumbent also supervises, trains and directs work of student staff to ensure co-op students meet requirements for a meaningful and engaging experience.

TheCareer Development Consultantwill:

  • Develop non-credit co-op professional preparation courses usingthecareer education curriculum under guidance from the Manager, Student Talent Development;

  • Develop course outlines, learning outcomes and assessment tools including reflective practice exercises for students;

  • Design instructional materials, applying universal design methods and ensuring equity, diversity and inclusion standards and upheld to a high standard;

  • Manage relationships with external partners and industry professionals for course-based learning simulations;

  • Facilitate courses including leading lectures, large-group and small-group discussions both online and in person assuring high impact practices of teaching and learning;

  • Assist students with identifying learning outcomes in their program of study to build on individual capabilities and confidence, develop and articulate core competencies, overcome employment barriers and strategize on how to market themselves effectively to potential employers;

  • Advise students on resume and cover letter writing, interview techniques, wage negotiation, professional etiquette, branding, networking skills, LinkedIn profile, and overall decision making while seeking co-op employment;

  • Develop, maintain, and update career development resources that reflect current and emerging labour market trends;

  • Deliver presentations and participate across Co-op, Career & Experiential Education (CCEE)events and programming;

  • Ensure students are trained in career development strategies and practices including the CCEE career development model, Brock Competencies and equity, diversity and inclusion principles;

  • Supervise, coach, guide and manage student staff performance ensuring CCEE and Brock values are upheld and program objectives are met;

  • Manageand create a dynamic online learning environment for students using Brock’s Learning Management System ( Brightspace D2L);

  • Integrate online tools including career assessments, AI platforms (, VMock), simulations, virtual events, and other emerging technologies to maintain updated content and careercurriculum; and

  • Identify and apply innovative, technology-enabled strategies to continuously improve learner engagement.

KeySkills andExperience:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Experience incourse design and delivery, instructional techniques, and facilitation experience in a post-secondary environment;

  • Coaching, careerdevelopmentand employment advisingexperience;

  • Knowledge of teaching and learning practices,instructional principles (online and in person),career development theory, methods and practices;

  • Knowledge and experience in development of equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the role and unit operations;

  • Understanding of relevant labour market trends, occupational research and career/job search information;

  • Solid computer competency includingplatforms such as DB Brock, Sakai,CareerZone,Office 365 suites (Teams, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and AI technology;

  • Ability to demonstratea high level professional and dynamic presentation style to engage and motivate students in small and large groups;

  • Advanced communication skills and professional public speaking ability;

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills for providing feedback, conducting individual competencies and skills assessments, and motivating students for personal and professional growth; and

  • Excellent prioritization, time management, and organizational skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Career Development Practitioner (CDP) designation;

  • Master of Education with a focus in Teaching, Learning and Development; and

  • Knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and administering courses using Learning Management Systems ( D2L Brightspace).

SalaryandTotal Rewards:

  • Job GradeL, Salary Scale ($67,721 - $108,353);

  • Target Hiring Range:$67,721 -$69,000*
