Job description
Location: Whitby, ON
Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Mon-Fri + OT)
Compensation: $42.00 - $48.00 per hour

Job description
Our client is a leading Canadian manufacturer with over 60 years of innovation in eco-responsible expanded polystyrene (EPS) products. Following a recent acquisition and a $4 million investment in their Whitby facility, they are installing a state-of-the-art block mold system to move manufacturing on-site. We are seeking a dedicated, independent Industrial Mechanic to be the technical anchor of this expanding plant. As the sole on-site technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and optimization of a high-pressure steam-based production line.

At Randstad, we specialize in connecting skilled trades professionals with industry-leading organizations. This role falls under our Randstad Operational specialization, focusing on manufacturing and industrial management. We are committed to inclusive hiring practices and value diversity in the workplace. While this role is based in Ontario, our client operates nationally; therefore, bilingualism or the ability to communicate effectively with remote technical teams in Quebec is considered an asset.

Advantages
• Comprehensive Benefits: 80% employer-paid Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage.
• Vacation: 3 weeks of vacation plus a 2-week Christmas shutdown (includes 6 paid days).
• Growth: Opportunity to grow within a doubling workforce and a stable, essential-service industry.
• Allowances: Safety boot allowance provided; tool allowance potential to be discussed.
• Paid Training: Fully paid 2-week training/shadowing period in Montreal.

Responsibilities
• Perform all preventative and corrective maintenance (PM) schedules and troubleshooting for a new $4M block mold system, pre-expanders, and shape molding equipment.
• Maintain high-pressure steam systems and pressure vessels in strict accordance with TSSA regulations.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment involving PLCs (Omron, Siemens, Allen Bradley) and HMIs.
• Maintain a 50/50 split between mechanical and electrical tasks.
• Utilize MIG, TIG, Flux, Arc, and Stick welding to repair or modify machinery and ducting.
• Independently source local suppliers for parts and manage the on-site spare parts inventory.
• Monitor and maintain hydraulics, pneumatics, silos, airveyors, and CNC hot-wire cutting equipment.

Qualifications
• Certification: Valid Ontario 433A Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) License is mandatory.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Technical Knowledge: Proven expertise in high-pressure steam systems and pressure vessel maintenance.
• Industry Background: Experience in plastics, foam, chemical, or packaging industries is highly preferred.
• Travel: Ability to travel to Montreal for an initial 2-week training period.
• Compliance: Employment is conditional upon a clear criminal background check and professional reference checks.

Summary
This is a rare opportunity for a licensed Millwright to take full ownership of a brand-new production line and act as a technical leader within a growing facility. If you are a self-starter with a background in high-pressure systems and a desire for long-term stability, we encourage you to apply. Our hiring process includes an initial virtual screening, followed by a technical site tour in Whitby and a meeting with the Maintenance Chief.
