At Deric, a general contractor, we carry out large-scale projects with a tangible and lasting impact. As a multidisciplinary company, we specialize in civil works, deep foundations, process mechanics, power distribution, instrumentation and control, industrial maintenance, and automation. Deric is recognized as having expertise in the water treatment sector, shore/harbour installations and heavy industry.
With offices in Laval, Québec City and Burlington, our teams operate throughout the provinces of Quebec and Ontario—from the Greater Toronto area to the Québec City region and as far as the Lower North Shore. Deric offers stimulating challenges in diverse technical environments.
What will your day-to-day look like?
Reporting to General Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
· Assist in the design of machine‑level power distribution systems (up to 600V, 1000A).
· Contribute to the design of control system network architectures.
· Develop electrical panel designs, including schematics, layouts, bills of materials, and construction documentation.
· Perform PLC programming and HMI configuration for industrial automation systems.
· Configure and integrate a variety of industrial devices and field equipment.
· Participate in system testing in office, panel shop, and job‑site environments.
· Support system commissioning and start‑up activities on job sites.
· Provide on‑site support for operating equipment and assist with troubleshooting.
· Conduct inspections of existing equipment at client sites.
· Collaborate with field trades (electricians, millwrights, etc.) during installation and commissioning.
We would like to meet you if you have the following qualifications:
· The candidate must be currently completing or have recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, an Electrical Engineering Technology or Instrumentation Technology program, or a related engineering or technology diploma;
· Exposure (through coursework, projects, co-op terms, or internships) to industrial automation systems, including HMIs and PLCs;
· Familiarity with motor control equipment (e.g., starters, VFDs, servos, soft starters);
· Basic knowledge of industrial networking/protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet);
· Hands-on experience with field I/O and instrumentation devices (e.g., proximity/limit switches, solenoid valves, relays, and other sensors);
· Exposure (through coursework, projects, co-op terms, or internships) to CAD tools such as AutoCAD (or EPLAN);
· Familiarity with PLC programming software (for any PLC platform previously used);
· Experience with HMI configuration/development software (for any HMI/PLC platform previously used);
· Curiosity and a strong willingness to learn;
· Valid driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and willingness to travel as required for the role;
· Ability/willingness to work in both office and field environments, including client sites, indoors or outdoors, in varying weather conditions. Some projects may require working shift work for short periods of time.
Why choose Deric?
- Grow within a multisector company and contribute to diversified projects alongside multidisciplinary teams;
- Competitive salary;
- Comprehensive group insurance plan, mostly paid by the employer: medical, dental, and life insurance;
- Retirement savings plan with employer contribution (RSP);
- Access to a telemedicine platform for quick and convenient medical consultations;
Please note that the listed qualifications are provided as examples only. Above all, we value passion, a willingness to learn, and the motivation to grow with us.
