Maintenance Assistant II

$57,185 to $66,897

Temporary Full-Time (up to 1 year contract)

Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly janitorial duties according to schedule including: vacuuming, floor cleaning, stripping/waxing/polishing, interim window cleaning, garbage collection and removal.
  • Acts as back-up to cleaning staff for absences and emergency clean ups.
  • Ensures set up of equipment and furniture for agency and community partner functions.
  • Completes minor repairs and maintenance of property and equipment under the supervision of Maintenance Supervisor, includes general carpentry tasks such as door frame repairs, trim work, painting etc.
  • Conducts plumbing repairs such as faucet installation, replacement of hot water tanks and cleans drains.
  • Assists with electrical repairs including troubleshooting, and repair or receptacles, switches, ballasts.
  • Assists with repairs at Group and Foster Homes owned by the organization. Responding to tenant building related calls both at main building and organization owned properties. Liaising with Tenants and Contractors and maintain relations.
  • Conducts equipment repairs as necessary.
  • Performs routine inspections and testing including daily forklift and vehicle inspections, weekly generator testing, monthly fire extinguisher inspections, and regular panic button and emergency systems testing.
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance on building structural elements and finishes, building equipment, HVAC systems and others as directed.
  • Assumes such other related duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus vocational program of at least one year with experience in building maintenance practices.
  • Experience in plumbing, soldering, building repair, and carpentry work, with knowledge of electrical systems strongly preferred.
  • Current forklift certification and working at height considered an asset.
  • Experience using power, such as table saws, mitre saws, drill presses, sanders, reciprocating saws, and various hand tools.
  • Ability to work varied shifts as necessary, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Candidates must have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector check, and a Driver’s Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation, satisfactory to the organization.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, OHSA requirements.
