Job description

Total Group of Companies is actively recruiting a Safety Specialist to support both shop operations and project-based field work in Guelph, Ontario. We are an equal opportunity employer, offer competitive wages, and believe in providing an exceptional workplace for all personnel.

The Safety Specialist is primarily accountable for maintaining safety compliance within our shop and yard, while also providing on-site industrial safety support to our clients.

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, daily tasks and activities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting hazard assessments and implementing controls

  • Confined space monitoring and air monitoring

  • Working at heights oversight

  • Delivering toolbox talks and safety orientations

  • Enforcing provincial and client-specific safety requirements

  • Intervening in unsafe acts and exercising stop-work authority

  • Supporting emergency response readiness

  • Shop maintenance and general yard organization

  • Loading and unloading trucks and equipment

  • Inspecting, maintaining, and tracking safety equipment



The ideal candidate would possess the following traits:

  • Detail oriented

  • Strong safety mindset

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Physically capable of working in industrial environments

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 19 years of age

  • Authorized to work in Canada and possess a valid SIN

  • Hold a valid Ontario driver’s license and own reliable transportation

  • Be able to produce a clean or satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

  • Have the ability to pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Testing

Required Certifications (Must Be Current):

  • Standard First Aid & CPR/AED

  • Working at Heights (Ontario compliant)

  • Confined Space Entry

  • WHMIS

  • Gas Detection / Air Monitoring

Assets:

  • Confined Space Rescue

  • NFPA 1006

  • H2S Alive

  • Additional industrial safety certifications
