Faster. Smarter. Safer. This is how Aecon Utilities delivers projects. As we continue our journey to becoming Canada’s #1 utility construction provider, we are seeking a Senior EHS Advisor to provide leadership, expertise, and strategic oversight across our operations.

The Senior EHS Advisor plays a critical leadership role in advancing Aecon’s health, safety, and environmental (HSE) culture by influencing behaviours, mentoring teams, and driving continuous improvement. Supporting Aecon Power Services, this role will be supporting the Sudbury to Sault Ste Marie Regions and works closely with project leadership, clients, and operations to ensure best-in-class EHS performance. Travel will be required withing the province to various substation projects along with some additional travel out of province.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Provide senior-level leadership and subject matter expertise in health, safety, and environmental management across complex, high-risk utility construction projects
  • Champion and model Aecon’s inclusive safety culture, reinforcing equity, diverse perspectives, and psychological safety at all levels of the organization
  • Act as a trusted advisor to project leadership, supervisors, clients, and subcontractors on EHS risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and best practices
  • Lead and oversee employee, site-specific, and client safety orientations, ensuring consistency, quality, and regulatory alignment
  • Deliver and coordinate advanced and legislated training programs, including:
  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Traffic Protection and Traffic Control Person (TCP)
  • WHMIS
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Emergency Response
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve project-specific EHS plans, including:
  • Emergency response and evacuation plans
  • Fire and environmental emergency procedures
  • Traffic control and public protection plans
  • Fall protection and high-risk work plans
  • Lead formal workplace inspections, audits, and behavioural observation programs, identifying trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for improvement
  • Analyze incident data and accident trends, providing actionable insights and recommendations to senior project and functional leadership
  • Lead and participate in accident and incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis, regulatory reporting, and sustainable corrective actions
  • Serve as a management representative on Joint Health and Safety Committees, providing leadership and mentorship to committee members
  • Prepare for, lead, and support internal and external audits, including client and regulatory audits
  • Partner with the Claims Administrator to manage workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and modified duties plans
  • Provide oversight and coordination of environmental compliance and issues, including inspections, mitigation, and reporting
  • Deliver professional safety presentations to clients and industry partners, promoting Aecon’s EHS systems and demonstrating leadership in safety excellence
  • Mentor and support junior EHS team members, contributing to capability building and succession planning

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in the construction industry in a Health, Safety, and/or Environmental role
  • Proven experience working on high voltage or high-risk utility construction projects (strong asset)
  • Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Construction Regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of related legislation and standards, including: WHMIS Asbestos in Construction Designated Substances Smoking in the Workplace
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and proactive leadership
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to engage and challenge senior leaders, clients, and frontline teams
  • Recognized champion of inclusion, diversity, and respect in the workplace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong stakeholder relationship management capabilities
  • Comfortable supporting a flexible work schedule to meet project and operational needs
  • Valid G Driver’s License

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience and unique skills.
