Job description

Ready to lead where strategy meets transformation? Step into a role that amplifies your impact—shaping teams, driving innovation, and influencing the future of an entire organization.

Why This Role Matters

At ERM, we partner with global organizations to create safe, sustainable operations that protect people, the planet, and profitability. As a Principal Consultant, Auditor – EHS Regulatory Compliance and Management Systems, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping EHS strategies for some of the world’s most influential companies. This is your opportunity to lead high-impact projects, influence executive decision-making, and drive measurable change in industries that matter.

What Your Impact Is

You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding them through complex regulatory landscapes and sustainability frameworks. Your expertise will help organizations reduce risk, achieve compliance, and embed best practices into their operations. From auditing to strategy development, you’ll play a critical role in advancing ERM’s mission of delivering innovative solutions for a safer, more sustainable future.

What You'll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, sustainability, health & safety science, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 6+ years of EHS experience in consulting or industry, ideally with exposure in Canada and internationally.
  • Proven ability to assess EHS management systems across high-hazard sectors (mining, oil & gas, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, power generation).
  • Strong understanding of Canadian EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional communication skills—able to engage senior leaders and frontline teams alike.
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in environmental, sustainability, or related field.
  • 12+ years of EHS experience with global exposure.
  • Professional certifications such as EP (EMS LA), EP (CEA), CSRP, P.Eng., or similar.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and digital solutions for EHS systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead audits for EHS compliance, management systems, and sustainability frameworks—individually or as part of a team.
  • Develop strategies, processes, and tools to strengthen client EHS programs.
  • Support ERM’s Safe and Sustainable Operations team in meeting international mining standards (ICMM, CopperMark, Cyanide Code, TSM).
  • Manage national and global projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and excellence.
  • Deliver training, in-field coaching, and impactful presentations.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, driving repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Collaborate across ERM’s global network to share best practices and innovate solutions.

For the Principal Consultant, Auditor – EHS Regulatory Compliance and Management Systems position, the anticipated annual base pay is $ 129,521- $ 158,372 (CAD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and other applicable benefits to eligible employees.

Note: Bonuses, commissions, and other forms of additional compensation are not guaranteed and subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures.

As the largest global pure play sustainability consultancy, we partner with the world’s leading organizations, creating innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and unlocking commercial opportunities that meet the needs of today while preserving opportunity for future generations.

At ERM we know that creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment is an essential part of making our company a great place to build a career. We also see our diversity as a strength that helps us create better solutions for our clients. Our diverse team of world-class experts supports clients across the breadth of their organizations to operationalize sustainability, underpinned by our deep technical expertise in addressing their environmental, health, safety, risk and social issues. We call this capability our “boots to boardroom” approach for its comprehensive service model that allows ERM to develop strategic and technical solutions that advance objectives on the ground or at the executive level.
