Research & Development Engineer
The Research & Development Engineer will manage engine tests at PERDC, coordinate the work of Dynamometer technicians and trades, and interface with other departments—including other engine plants, product development and quality—to deliver data and test results as requested. The role requires a passion for technical excellence and the ability to work with a diverse team to ensure quality of tests and reports.
Responsibilities
- Support and develop gasoline and diesel engine research, development, and testing.
- Proficiently operate tools such as Automotive Technology Inc. (ATI) Vision and Engineering Tools Application Solutions (ETAS).
- Familiarity with exhaust emission analyzer systems.
- Analyze, interpret, and write internal technical reports; publish technical papers in conferences and journals.
- Execute Ford Corporate Engineering Test Procedures (CETP), sustain and improve test automation systems, and develop new test methodologies and CETPs.
- Execute group research on direct injection, turbocharging, and combustion.
- Operate data acquisition systems for data collection in dynamometer test cells.
- Interface with PERDC engineers, technicians, and skilled trades, as well as research and product engineers, to achieve project goals.
- Execute major development projects such as powertrain mapping to optimize Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH), performance, and emissions.
- Lead large projects for test facility implementation, including specifying, designing, procuring, field verifying, and final implementation of test facilities.
