Job description

What is the Opportunity?

Faster. Smarter. Safer. This is how Aecon Utilities is committed to delivering projects. Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canada’s #1 utility construction provider and we’re looking for an Engineering Coordinator to join our Renewables group and help us get there! Aecon Renewables is supporting the development and construction of renewable energy projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar, and other clean energy facilities.

Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with site supervision, the Electrical Coordinator is an on-site construction-focused role responsible for coordinating electrical work between the field and the engineering/design teams. This role plays a critical part in identifying electrical issues in the field, facilitating resolution through RFIs, and supporting constructable, compliant electrical installations.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Provide on-site electrical coordination support to construction activities.
  • Act as the primary liaison between field crews and the engineering/design team for electrical scope.
  • Identify electrical issues in the field and coordinate resolution through RFIs and technical clarifications.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution related to cable sizing, routing, grounding, equipment sizing, and installation sequencing.
  • Review electrical drawings and specifications to support constructability and field execution.
  • Coordinate with engineers to develop practical, construction-ready solutions to field issues.
  • Track electrical RFIs, responses, and field changes to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support inspection readiness, testing, and commissioning preparation for electrical systems.
  • Ensure electrical work aligns with project safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in site meetings and coordination discussions related to electrical scope.
  • Maintain documentation related to electrical changes, clarifications, and field conditions.
  • Adhere to all Aecon workplace policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Electrical trade certification, electrical technologist diploma, or electrical engineering education; equivalent field experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience supporting electrical construction activities on industrial, utility, or renewable energy projects.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating electrical installations in an active construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems including cable installation, routing, grounding, equipment installation, and electrical drawings.
  • Experience supporting utility interconnects and substation-related electrical work is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and communicate effectively with both field and engineering teams.
  • Comfortable working full-time on site in a construction environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively resolve field issues.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications; experience with RFIs and construction documentation systems is an asset.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
