Our client in the construction and development industry, based in Waterloo, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their growing team! The role will focus heavily on cash forecasting, monthly financial reporting, and project financial oversight, while working closely with senior leadership to analyze financial performance and drive process improvements.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and variance analysis for the construction division
  • Lead and maintain cash forecasting and cash flow planning
  • Oversee payroll accounting and government remittances
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 4 members.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual working papers and liaise with external accountants during year-end
  • Review and manage project financials to ensure accuracy and performance tracking
  • Identify financial risks, recognize issues, and implement effective solutions
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and department leaders to present financial insights and support decision-making
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial projects and analysis as required
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction industry experience is REQUIRED.
  • CPA designation is required
  • Experience with Sage 300 is considered an asset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial results to leadership
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • High attention to detail
