Job Profile
There is a permanent opening within the Recreation and Culture Division, Community Development Department available immediately. Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation – Children & Youth, this position will provide leadership and support to contract, part-time and volunteer support staff to ensure quality program delivery and excellent customer service to meet current and changing needs of the community. The primary function will include children & youth programming, working with community groups and volunteer management.
What you will be doing
- Guided by the Strategic Plan and related documents, lead the design, development, and delivery of child/youth programs that respond to community needs and are in compliance with all applicable legislation and City corporate, departmental, and divisional policies, procedures, and standards.
- Plan and deliver proactive programming informed by economic, social, recreational and fitness trends, community needs assessments and ongoing program evaluation.
- Advance equitable, accessible, and inclusive programming by identifying and reducing barriers to participation and ensuring programs reflect the diverse needs and experiences of the community.
- Conduct ongoing research and maintain knowledge of sector and industry trends contributing to benchmarking, best practices, and continuous improvement within the portfolio.
- Monitor, report on and analyze program performance and data, including participant enrollment, capacity utilization, revenue, and expenses.
- Incident/accident reporting and communication in accordance with City policies and risk management protocols.
- Participates in risk management process identifying, assessing, and controlling financial, legal, strategic, and security risks in assigned areas
- Support the implementation of quality assurance standards including staff and volunteer training and development, performance measurement and the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal/external partners and stakeholders to ensure high quality programming.
- Purchase and manage inventory and functionality of supplies, equipment, uniforms, and program materials
- Assists Supervisor with the preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting of expenses, revenues, and outcomes in budget and grants
- In collaboration with Human Resources and the Supervisor, support the recruitment, training, supervision, and retention of contract instructors, part time staff and volunteers.
- Assist with the planning, delivery and documentation of staff and volunteer trainings and ongoing monitoring of staff certifications
- Deliver strategies to increase customer recruitment and retention through continuous improvement of customer experience. Timely and appropriate follow-up with customer concerns, requests, and inquiries.
- Support customer registration processes including monitoring and program capacity recommendations as required.
Education
Post-secondary diploma in Recreation & Leisure or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge

A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in Child/Youth Recreation Programming, Volunteer Management, and working with Community Groups

Experience with ActiveNet or other registration software and Volunteer Management software

Your compensation
This position is within Grade 8 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $77,605 to $82,501.

Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
Hours of work
The current hours of work are in accordance with the Inside Worker’s Collective Agreement and may be scheduled between Monday to Sunday, seven (7) hours per day, thirty-five (35) hours per week, from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm as established per the Collective Agreement.
