Job description

About YOU

You are a compassionate, knowledgeable professional who is deeply committed to supporting children and youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and their caregivers. Grounded in a strengths-based and family-centered philosophy, you bring a combination of clinical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and genuine care for vulnerable and at-risk populations.

You hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) and have at least three years of experience in children’s mental health, social services, or primary health care. You have a solid understanding of FASD, its primary characteristics, intervention approaches, and the impact of trauma, grief, and loss on child development. You are experienced in coaching families, building capacity among caregivers and educators, and navigating complex service systems.

You excel in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and are confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders across sectors such as health, education, justice, and community services. Your strong interpersonal skills help you form trusting relationships, while your excellent organizational abilities allow you to manage referrals, clinical documentation, scheduling, and system navigation effectively.

You are adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable using innovative approaches to meet the unique needs of children, youth, and families. You value continuous learning and actively seek opportunities to enhance your knowledge, participate in training, and contribute to system-level improvements that increase FASD awareness and support.

Working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, you maintain clear professional boundaries, uphold client safety, and model respect in all interactions. You are comfortable presenting to groups, engaging with diverse cultural communities, and supporting transitions across the lifespan.

You are flexible, committed to inclusive and family-centered care, and equipped with the technological skills required for virtual and in‑person service delivery. You have access to reliable transportation and are prepared to meet the safety and compliance standards required for the role.

About ROCK

ROCK (Reach Out Centre for Kids) is recognized as the number one non‑profit employer of choice, leading the way in providing mental health services to children, youth, and families in the Halton region. We are an accredited organization with exemplary standings from Accreditation Canada, reflecting our commitment to high‑quality care. Our dynamic and collaborative team is dedicated to achieving our mission and vision, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that mirrors the diversity of the community we serve. At ROCK, we offer various professional development opportunities, company events, and a supportive culture that encourages innovation and growth. ROCK is site certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) a developmentally sensitive, neurobiology‑informed approach to clinical problem solving. Our hybrid work model provides flexibility, combining on‑site and virtual environments, to best meet the needs of our staff and clients. Join us in making a meaningful impact in mental health care.

The ROLE

The FASD Clinical Consultant supports children and youth with suspected or diagnosed FASD and their caregivers through direct service, coordination, and system navigation. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will create individualized care plans, provide post‑diagnosis support, and coordinate the Halton FASD Assessment and Diagnostic Clinic, including referrals, interviews, documentation, and follow‑up.

You will collaborate with caregivers, educators, and service providers across sectors to build capacity, share strategies, and connect families to appropriate services. The role also involves providing training to the community, supporting FASD programs, and helping families with complex needs access coordinated service planning and transitions to adult services.

This position contributes to broader system improvement by promoting FASD awareness, identifying service gaps, and engaging diverse cultural communities. Flexibility, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to family‑centered, safe, and respectful care are essential.

Please note that this is a contract full‑time position, working 35 hours per week covering a staff leave with a planned end date of September 13 2027, or until the staff on leave returns, whichever is earlier.

  • Experience coaching families with children / youth with FASD (possible FASD or diagnosed)
  • Knowledge of child development and function.
  • Experience coordinating a multidisciplinary Team.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of complex trauma and neglect on child development
  • Experience working with grief and loss
  • Experience working with the child and youth service system & knowledge of the services and supports available in Halton
