As the province’s largest energy provider with more than 100 years of knowledge and experience, we proudly deliver renewable energy, natural gas, electricity and propane to 1.3 million customers.

We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.'s energy landscape. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,700 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview

Your passion for conservation drives you to help FortisBC’s largest customers to reduce their energy usage and associated GHG’s. You are a generalist that is just as comfortable reviewing technical energy efficiency reports as you are building relationships and managing a high-performance team. You recognize that programs can’t succeed without ensuring you understand your customers and place a high value in getting input from a wide variety of stakeholders. Does this sound like you? Then you've got what it takes to excel in our Program Manager role.

As a part of our Conservation and Energy Management (C&EM) team, you'll build and refine energy-efficient programs for our commercial and industrial program areas to ensure the delivery of excellent customer experiences, energy savings and high degrees of customer satisfaction. You'll utilize your leadership skills to lead a team that implements the end-to-end of program life cycles, including program development, marketing, operations, evaluation and reporting. You will build your team’s effectiveness through relationship-based management, coaching and investing time in the development of your direct reports. You’ll also collaborate closely with other internal departments to gain insights into customer needs and methodically make program adjustments to change as the market and customer expectations evolve over time. Your analytical eye can break down processes to identify opportunities for enhanced customer experiences, and you take a proactive approach to ensure programs continually improve and adapt.

The C&EM Program Manager, Commercial & Industrial position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining FortisBC’s conservation and energy management commercial and industrial programs.

In this role, you will:

  • Become an expert in the Commercial and Industrial portfolio and prioritize the development and adoption of new programs, new measures, and customer segments.
  • Drive change that leads to enhanced commercial and industrial customer experiences, greater energy savings and greenhouse gas reductions.
  • Lean on your experience as a strong people leader to perform all aspects of human resource management including hiring, coaching, goal setting, feedback and performance management.
  • Perform accurate forecasting to ensure energy savings and investment targets in the Demand Side Management Plan are met.
  • Work closely with peer program managers to ensure consistency across programs and portfolios.
  • Support regulatory filings with the B.C. Utilities Commission and respond to any requests relating to commercial and industrial activities.
  • Develop competitive bidding contracts, legal contracts and terms and conditions in conjunction with procurement and legal departments.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, engineering or related discipline from a recognized program, plus a minimum of five (5) years of recent, related experience.
  • A proven track record of building and leading high performance teams.
  • Previous experience delivering and communicating Demand Side Management programs would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of natural gas and electrical energy systems in commercial and industrial facilities and experience working in a regulated utility would be an asset.
  • A Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) designation, engineering or technical experience preferred, but not required.
  • A customer-centric approach to designing programs, team leadership and measuring success.
  • Experience with analyzing and implementing energy efficiency measures in retrofit and/or new construction applications.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
