Job description

The Opportunity

The role is full-time, permanent working out of our client’s Oshawa office. You will work from Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm, but some flexibility would be required to work off-hours or on weekends, when needed.

Position Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to fill the role of Junior I.T. Specialist. This position is a critical support role in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Manager, Computer and Information Systems. You will be responsible for the maintenance of networking systems and devices, as well as server updates.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with employee equipment.
  • Oversee the maintenance of multiple servers, encompassing both physical and cloud-based systems.
  • Generate access cards for in-house personnel and present door access reports when necessary.
  • Arrange workspaces with necessary equipment such as PCs, screens, printers, and scanning devices for fresh deployments or when job roles alter.
  • Oversee the cabling and wiring within the premises, including laying cables across different units.
  • Administer and keep an inventory count of organizational assets like laptops, desktop PCs, scanners, and printers, along with consumables like toner and ink, subsequently inputting these into the HRIS system.
  • Cater to requests from staff both at the main office and remote sites, received via the ticketing system.
  • Retain an organized filing method to keep track of asset serial numbers and their respective staff allocations.
  • Ensure servers are inspected outside regular hours for updates or potential service interruptions.
  • Install and arrange software solutions like Kroll, PK Software, and FedEx Ship Manager.
  • Oversee and set up VoIP systems.
  • Keep a vigilant eye on network security, identifying potential breaches or unauthorized intrusions.

Experience

  • Proficiency with Hyper-V, VMware vSphere (inclusive of ESXi and vCenter), and overall infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with the setup, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of Windows Server 2016/2019 Enterprise server.
  • An understanding of UniFi Controller service or Unifi Enterprise management.
  • While not mandatory, expertise in Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Kroll would be advantageous. A Google Certification would also be considered a plus.
