Hardware Project Lead – Hardware Designer

Job Description

Our client located in Scarborough, Ontario, is seeking a Hardware Project Lead – Hardware Designer. In this role, you will lead a team of hardware designers as a Hardware Work-Package Manager, ensuring successful delivery of hardware projects on schedule, within budget, and to scope. You will design new or revise existing hardware products, equipment, and installations, applying established engineering processes, best practices, and design methodologies

This will be a day shift position (8 hour per day)

Pay rate-

Contrail role – 6-month contract

Starting ASAP -

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning of group activities on one or multiple projects by using the appropriate management tools to define and schedule the tasks.
  • Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
  • Responsible for the quality and integrity of the hardware designs and all related documentation, for conducting technical reviews, and for ensuring changes are in line with objectives.
  • Ensuring that assigned work proceed according to project schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements. This includes revising plans and forecasts as required to accommodate changes in circumstances.
  • May be required to perform administrative tasks such as approving timesheets, vacation requests and may assist in the selection, appraisal, and evaluation of staff as required.
  • Carries out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision, in accordance with company and departmental
  • Presents effective solutions to problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation.
  • Makes timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors.
  • Keeps track of progress on all assigned tasks and verifies that all assigned work has been completed accurately
  • Responsible for the quality and integrity of the hardware designs and all related documentation, for conducting technical reviews, and for ensuring changes are in line with objectives
  • Ensures both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing the deployment cost of those products. Contributes to the heightened reuse of product hardware and contributes to improvements in hardware quality.
  • Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components or devices.
  • Interprets, identifies, and documents requirements such that customer needs are met within the budget and schedule constraints.
  • Develops appropriate design architecture.
  • Reviews any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensure that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken
  • Implement designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines

Requirements

  • + years of experience in industry:
  • Cabling o Grounding techniques o Surge Protection
  • Electrical Engineering Principles:
  • Power circuits design
  • Electronic circuits including Microprocessors, Telecommunications circuits
  • Engineering tools: CAD system (Autocad); Multi-meter; Oscilloscope; Protocol Analyzers...
  • Well-developed verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
  • Proven track record in designing complex electrical or electronics products
  • Well-developed writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
  • The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work
  • The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action.
  • Proficient in the skills, and current with the technology of the discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum years of experience in Railway Signalling industry
  • Proven track record of designing, installation, and testing of communication-based train control on-board equipment
  • Formulating or contributing to the development of new designs
  • Devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems
  • Excellent understanding of the train interfaces and train operations
  • Familiar with train maintenance, train components, sub-systems and various train designs from different manufacturers
  • Understand, read, and design train interface electrical schematics
  • Deep understanding of the CENELEC and AREMA railway standards regarding on-board equipment
  • Experienced in performing train surveys
  • Ability to support bids by defining technical solutions and review the materials list
  • Certification: PEO
