Who are we looking for?
Our Ontario Transportation Group is looking for a Project Manager ready to join our growing Canadian Operations in our Markham, Whitby, Mississauga, or Toronto office.
The Transportation Group within GHD Canada works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipal transportation agencies, as well as select contracting partners, on projects including highways, roads and bridges, transit and multi-modal infrastructure, and transportation planning. Our team is growing fast in Ontario, striving to create lasting value for our clients by creating and delivering solutions to complex transportation infrastructure problems.
Candidates’ career path:
This role is intended for an upcoming Project Manager interested in the advancement of their career leading highway planning and preliminary design projects. The role will provide exposure to and opportunities for growth in greater project leadership, business development, staff management, and operations management. The candidate will collaborate across our transportation, environmental, water, and properties and buildings markets to deliver projects for our clients, leveraging the broader strengths of GHD’s teams.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Project Leadership: Successful leadership delivering highway planning projects for MTO and similar clients as a Project Manager and/or Assistant Project Manager.
- Project Management: Taking ownership for all aspects of the management of projects from proposal to close-out, including managing teams, sub-consultants, budgets, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.
- Collaboration: Teamwork in small and large teams. Owning the integration with other engineering disciplines, engineers, and design staff in the production of high-quality project deliverables.
- Project Team Management: Managing staff including performance, workload, and supporting their technical and professional development.
- Leadership and Direction: Promoting best practices and leadership in transportation projects.
- Supporting Business Development including capture planning and leading proposals.
- Stakeholder Management: Contribute to the development and execution of the business development strategy for relevant clients, including enhancing client relationships, identifying opportunities, creating capture plans and leading proposals.
- Project Delivery: Applying your expertise using a variety of transportation solutions to help our clients, including corridor planning, preliminary design, green infrastructure strategies, application of the Environmental Assessment process, intersection and interchange design, digital delivery, integrated transportation technology/ITS solutions, highway and bridge rehabilitation and expansion strategies, and roundabout design.
- Driving high quality results, client satisfaction, and strong financial performance to support the growth of our transportation portfolio.
What you’ll bring to the team:
- Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering
- Ontario . designation required (or eligible)
- 10+ years' experience in design and engineering of transportation infrastructure projects, including project management experience.
- Experience working with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
- Experience working with other highway agencies and municipal transportation clients would be an asset.
- Experience managing design projects in collaborative models (. Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, CMGC) would be an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven track record to develop, mentor, and lead professional technical staff.
