Job description

Who We Are

Rising Edge Group is an electrical contracting company founded in 2002, specialization in high-voltage electrical solutions that power critical infrastructure across North America. With operations in both Canada and the United States, we partner with clients across the electrical utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors to design, build, and maintain the critical infrastructure systems communities and industries rely on.

Driven by a clear vision to strengthen the stability, reliability, and advancement of energy infrastructure, we take pride in delivering work that matters. Guided by our STRIDE values - Safety, Teamwork, Responsibility, Integrity, Deliver, and Excellence - we foster a people focused culture of growth, mentorship and collaboration where safety always come first.

What You'll Do

Reporting to a Project Controls Lead, or Project Controls Supervisor, the Junior Project Controller (Jr PC) supports the successful execution of project controls functions throughout the project lifecycle. The Jr PC is responsible for supporting project deliverables including invoicing, accruals, earned value reporting, forecasting support, reporting, cost tracking, and data validation. The role also supports project coordination activities through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

This role is designed as a structured development position within the Project Controls group. A Jr PC operates as part of a dedicated project controls pod, supporting an assigned Project Controller while progressively developing the technical, organizational, analytical, and communication skills required to advance into the Project Controller role.

This position is ideal for individuals who are highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and interested in developing a long-term career within project controls, construction finance, or project management.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Support the assigned Project Controller in maintaining all project cost and schedule deliverables.
  • Assist with project invoicing, accruals, earned value reporting, forecasting support, and project reporting.
  • Prepare, validate, and organize project data including labour, equipment, material, subcontractor, and schedule information.
  • Review incoming project information for completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, or inconsistencies and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date project tracking systems.
  • Assist with project setup, estimate handover coordination, and project closeout activities.
  • Attend internal and external project meetings for development and project coordination purposes.
  • Support the preparation and auditing of internal and external financial reports.
  • Assist in monitoring project cash flow and invoice status.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather required project information.
  • Utilize internal software systems and reporting tools to maintain project data accuracy.
  • Assist with month-end reporting activities and deadline management.
  • Support portfolio-wide coordination activities including standardized tracking and reporting functions.
  • Assist in maintaining process consistency across projects and teams.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and workflow standardization.
  • Support the implementation and use of automation and reporting tools.
  • Work as part of a collaborative project team.
  • Progressively take on increasing ownership and responsibility as capability is demonstrated.
  • Develop proficiency in project controls processes, forecasting principles, financial analysis, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Work closely with Project Controllers and senior team members to develop technical and operational competency.

Additional Information

As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to complete pre-employment screening including professional reference checks and a criminal record check.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Post-secondary education or diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Accreditations or progress toward certifications through PCI, PMI, AACE, or similar organizations (CAPM, PMP, EVP, CCP, etc.) will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a project controls, finance, accounting, scheduling, construction, or project coordination environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience within an EPC or industrial construction environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, InEight, Viewpoint, or similar construction management software is considered an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project priorities and deadlines.

Benefits

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with weekly pay periods
  • Generous paid time off
  • RRSP-DPSP employer matching, increasing with years of service
