SUMMARY
The Commercial Door Service Technician is responsible for independently performing advanced preventative and corrective maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations on Automatic Door Openers Swing and Slide, glass and aluminum doors, revolving doors, glazing, and building entry door systems.
In addition to hands-on technical work, the Service Technician provides technical leadership, supports complex troubleshooting, mentors junior technicians, and acts as a key resource for quality, safety, and client satisfaction on assigned contracts.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs advanced inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Automatic Door Openers Swing and Slide, glass and aluminum doors, revolving doors, glazing, building entry doors, and associated mechanical and electrical systems.
- Leads troubleshooting and resolution of complex or high-risk door system failures, including emergency and escalated service calls.
- Installs, repairs, and replaces advanced door systems, operators, controls, and specialized hardware in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Reviews work orders and service requests to determine appropriate scope, materials, repair strategies, and technical solutions.
- Ensures all work meets quality standards, contract requirements, safety regulations, and BGIS policies and procedures.
- Completes detailed service documentation, identifies deficiencies, and recommends long-term corrective actions or capital upgrade opportunities.
- Acts as a technical escalation point for junior and intermediate technicians, providing hands-on coaching, guidance, and informal mentoring.
- Supports onboarding and training of new technicians and contributes technical input to estimates, scopes of work, and service planning.
- Demonstrates and promotes a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset by identifying hazards and proactively implementing corrective actions.
Work Requirements
- Must be able to work shifts, be on-call and be available to respond to emergencies.
- Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Minimum Education: High school diploma required; formal trades training or certification strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in commercial door maintenance, repair, and installation, including complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute work in accordance with established processes, practices, and manufacturer specifications.
- Advanced ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and automated door systems, operators, controls, and related hardware.
- Proven advanced troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills, particularly for complex or escalated commercial door issues.
- Strong environmental, health, and safety mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify hazards and perform work safely and compliantly.
- Strong client-service orientation with the ability to manage urgent, high-impact service situations professionally.
Effective communication skills for technical explanation, documentation, coordination with clients, and support of junior technicians.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Valid Drivers license, clean drivers abstract and clean criminal background check required.
