Job description

Why BCAA?

Feel proud of what you do and help shape the future of BC at a BC Top Employer. We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

We’re currently looking for a Regular Full Time Fleet Mechanic!

This unique role helps keep BCAA moving by delivering high-quality, cost-effective maintenance and repairs on all BCAA owned fleet vehicles. You’ll ensure new ERS vehicles are ready for service.

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Work takes place at the BCAA Depot (5590 Goring Street, Burnaby), a full-service fleet and automotive facility.

As part of BCAA’s Mechanical Department, the Fleet Mechanic supports the Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) Shop. This team maintains more than 125 fleet and management vehicles and is equipped to perform all levels of automotive repair.

Who you are:

  • You take pride in delivering exceptional service and supporting both internal teams and Members.

  • You demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all situations.

  • You use sound judgment, plan ahead, and make informed decisions to keep work moving safely and efficiently.

  • You communicate clearly in English and can explain technical details in a way that’s easy for others to understand.

  • You have a genuine interest in automotive repair, technology, and keeping vehicles operating at their best.

  • You enjoy diagnosing issues, thinking critically, and finding effective solutions—whether routine or complex.

  • You take care in your work, follow procedures, and maintain high standards of accuracy and safety.

  • You’re flexible when priorities shift and ready to support different locations based on operational needs.

  • You stay up to date on new tools, repair techniques, and industry best practices.

What you’ll do:

  • Complete high-quality repairs and routine maintenance on BCAA’s ERS fleet as assigned by the ERS Shop Manager.

  • Service and repair Diesel, Gasoline, Hybrid/EV, and alternate fuel vehicles to BCAA’s safety and performance standards.

  • Perform monthly safety checks and preventative maintenance on all ERS fleet vehicles and equipment.

  • Build and prepare new ERS vehicles for service without impacting regular maintenance schedules.

  • Fabricate, weld, and repair specialty equipment for service trucks, battery trucks, wheel lifts, flat decks, and mini deck tow vehicles.

  • Maintain detailed work orders, including accurate parts and inventory tracking.

  • Ensure waste materials are handled and disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and compliant with all BCAA operational and environmental standards.

  • Tag and report equipment malfunctions promptly to the ERS Shop Manager or Safety representatives.

  • Review tools and equipment regularly and provide recommendations for improvements or innovation.

  • Maintain proper care and control of BCAA equipment, tools, and documentation.

  • Stay current with advancements in automotive technology and repair methods.

  • Complete mechanical repairs at the Burnaby Depot, including oil changes, tire services, and general automotive repairs.

  • Safely move vehicles in the shop, parking areas, and service bays.

  • Collaborate with Managers and team members to deliver an outstanding experience.

  • Mentor apprentices and lube technicians to support accuracy, safety, and skill development.

What you bring:

  • Automotive Red Seal Certification with up-to-date training in modern automotive technologies

  • Minimum 3 years as a Journeyperson Technician and 5 years of related mechanical experience

  • Experience with automotive DMS systems, modern scan tools, and MS Office (Outlook, Teams)

  • Demonstrated skills in welding and metal fabrication

  • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 70 lbs

  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record

  • Additional industry certifications are considered an asset

  • Preferred experience with diesel injection/fuel systems, 1ton to 5ton chassis, and alternative fuel vehicles

What we offer:

  • The chance to make a difference every day in the lives of British Columbians, BCAA Members and our communities.

  • Career and personal development to help you grow and reach your goals.

  • Incentives that recognize team and individual sales and performance.

  • Flexible benefits to support your health and lifestyle, and wellness dollars* to keep your body, mind and soul thriving.

  • A competitive rewards package including salary performance bonus programs, pension plan*, and more to help build your personal wealth.

  • Paid time off including vacation, and days for wellness, volunteering, and cultural, spiritual or religious connection.

  • BCAA membership, with valuable perks and Member savings on every day and special spending, from gas and coffee to clothes, sports and event tickets, and hotels.

  • Meaningful, rewarding work for a BC Top Employer known for putting people first and constantly building a better workplace for all our team members.
