The Director, Engineering of Commercial Technology will be accountable for the thought leadership, strategy, and direction of Engineering Technology, that supports the priorities and strategies within the Commercial organization.
They will work in close collaboration with Digital Product Owners, IT Platform Owners, In-house Engineering teams and Third-party vendors to analyze, design and implement technologies / applications that enables Four Seasons to be the world’s most guest-centric, digitally driven luxury hospitality brand.
The candidate thrives at solving deep technical issues, building best in class applications and will be responsible for defining the engineering, architectural strategies, frameworks, and governance processes that unlock enterprise-wide capabilities at scale.
This role is based in Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Toronto Corporate Office, reporting to the Senior Director, Solution Architecture, Commercial Technology.
What You Will be Doing :
Strategy and Business Plan Initiatives
Responsible for leading and defining the technical strategy, design, roadmap, and systems integration of the technology stack to support Commercial strategy, objectives and desired experiences across Digital Channels, Brand Marketing.
You will work with development teams to build / enhance hospitality commercial applications like hotel staff apps, customer mobile app, customer ecommerce solutions.
Focused on delivering exceptional Guest and Staff experiences that drive revenue and operational efficiencies.
Conducts market research on latest technology trends to expand capabilities, and plans Proof of Concept to assess fit for purpose and needs.
Has in depth knowledge and understanding of competitive products, services, and trends within the luxury brand and hospitality industry
Engineering and Architecture
Authors architectural blue-print designs that builds capabilities to enable enriched analytics, personalization, and work process automation across Four Season’s omnichannel experience platforms (e.
g., web, mobile, email, staff facing service platforms)
Builds best in class engineering processes and development models to produce fast, error free applications and systems
Leads and participates in the development of engineering and architectural strategies and frameworks
Translates the commercial business objectives and requirements into solutions design.
Ensures products are compliant with technology architecture and design / operational processes.
Provides ongoing review of in-progress activity against technology and development standards
Products, People and Culture
Experience building and managing an application development / software team. Motivating the team for results.
Skilled at mentoring, motivating, developing technical resources, conducting code reviews, explaining Design work.
Provides strategic and technical advice as the subject matter expert across key Commercial Technologies
Collaborates with internal and external cross-functional teams to solve problems and implement new solutions that are aligned with the commercial strategy and the products’ roadmaps.
Supports resource planning and allocation across the platform teams to ensure the team has the right capacity and capabilities to achieve its vision
Creates a continuous learning environment, identifying ways to learn from one another to strengthen the team’s bond and sense of ownership
Builds best practices and training to further technical mastery, across the organization
Drives the organization toward greater enterprise agility through identifying and partnering with other departments to address technology impediments
Technical Solutioning
Expert skills building services, integrating into larger environments in a cloud first environment
Experience integrating web service calls and / or RESTful / gRPC, proficiency with Restful web services, n-tier architecture
Proven success monitoring services for performance, error management, throughput, then tuning based on analysis
Working knowledge of web & mobile app protocols (NoSQL / JSON / REST / JMS)
Experience with Mobile App development languages, platforms, best practices.
In depth knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design, UML, design patterns.
Experience with system integration
Extensive Project skills completing development designs / technical skills

Modern web development technologies (React, Angular, Javascript, jQuery, typescript), modern front-end Services like node.js,
Expert skills in mobile app technologies and related best practices. Ability to write and understand modern mobile app languages : Kotlin, Flutter, Swift, Objective-C and others.
Experience in managing mobile and web applications, including operational support, troubleshooting, reviewing logs validating results.
Frameworks : Firebase, Spring, SpringBoot, MVC, JBOOT or similar Java frameworks, libraries and frameworks
Expert experience building and deploying applications on any major cloud system (Amazon or Azure preferred)
Experience with integrating between enterprise systems like Salesforce, Oracle.
Experience working with Marketing platforms including Adobe Experience Manager, Sales Force Marketing Cloud, Salesforce, Hotel Systems including Amadeus, Oracle, and Sabre
Knowledge of Agile Tools and methodology (Confluence, Monday.com, Jira)
What You Bring :
10-15+ years of experience in Digital, Engineering Technologies including Ecommerce, Web, Mobile Apps, Cloud services
7+ Years - Expert skills architecting solutions for enterprise applications running in a cloud-first environment. Experience required in throughput management, troubleshooting, monitoring, building alerting systems, performance and load management.
10+ Years leading developers, reviewing code, mentoring, teaching best practices, managing development deliverables.
15+ years Development experience, building software applications for Fortune 1000 Organizations. Must be able to build solutions for Enterprise systems using modern methods.
Experience working across global functional teams with diverse profile of people, processes, and priorities
Experience in delivering with global internal and external product teams while leveraging Agile / Scrum methodologies
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a Business or IT discipline (Computer Science). MBA would be considered an asset

This role will be a Hybrid working model, which will require 2-3 days per week in the Four Seasons Corporate Office located at 1165 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario #LI-Hybrid
