Job description
Job Description

At AECOM we balance the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future through a deep understanding of interconnected systems. Our professionals work in and across the major markets to deliver comprehensive solutions that safeguard human health and the environment.

We work with clients across the entire project life cycle — from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing). We design projects that are fully constructible.

As part of AECOM’s continued growth and success in the Southwestern Ontario Municipal Water Market, we are actively seeking a creative and highly talented Water/Wastewater Project Manager to deliver important infrastructure projects for the communities we serve. This new Project Manager role will lead a variety of drinking water and wastewater projects including treatment, pumping, storage, and related infrastructure. Projects may include planning and feasibility, preliminary design, detailed design, tendering, construction, commissioning, and close-out. This role can be based in AECOM’s Hamilton, Kitchener, or London offices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a high performing team in the delivery of complex multidisciplinary drinking water and wastewater projects.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving project delivery, technical and client challenges.
  • Work successfully within a team environment and communicate effectively with project team members and stakeholders.
  • Lead team in the completion of design deliverables including completing technical reports, preparing technical specifications and tender documents, and reviewing design drawings.
  • Lead quality reviews of deliverables including confirming conformance with project requirements and objectives, and arranging for senior engineers to review work.
  • Lead permitting applications for provincial and local regulatory agencies.
  • Manage services through the construction period including contract administration, site inspection, SCADA application development, testing, start-up, commissioning, and post-construction warranty.
  • Work with project teams, operations, and senior leadership to promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor and control project scope, manage project schedules, identify and manage project risk, and control budgets. Work collaboratively with operations to track and achieve key financial performance metrics.
  • Participate in business development activities including pursuit and proposal development for new drinking water and wastewater projects with both existing and new clients.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance of early career project staff.
  • Actively engage in professional development and industry events.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in a relevant program, plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • 6+ years prior experience as a Project Manager for drinking water and wastewater projects including; treatment, pumping, storage, and related infrastructure.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Preferred Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience as a Project Manager for drinking water and wastewater projects including; treatment, pumping, storage, and related infrastructure.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for technical and engineering knowledge.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. or C.E.T. in the province of Ontario.
  • Previous experience overseeing and coordinating all technical aspects of small to mid-size drinking water and/or wastewater projects.
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards and local municipal standards and guidelines.
  • Previous experience with Master Plans and Class Environmental Assessments is considered an asset.
  • Previous client facing project experience is considered an asset.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
