Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also provide Qualified Person (QP) oversight and approval of air emissions modelling.

You will work on complex projects across the mining, energy, industrial, and infrastructure sectors, collaborating with environmental specialists, engineers, project managers, clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.

The role offers the opportunity to remain technically involved while taking greater responsibility for project leadership, client relationships, team development, and the continued growth of the environmental practice.

100% in-office, five days per week.

Travel: 10%

Salary: $89k - $138k DOE, plus health benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

What You Will Be Expected to Accomplish

Lead Air Quality and Emissions Work

You will take technical ownership of air emissions and air quality assignments, ensuring assessments, modelling, documentation, and recommendations are technically sound, defensible, and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.

Depending on your background, you will:

  • Lead and review air emissions modelling and air quality impact assessments.
  • Provide technical direction on air emissions and, where applicable, noise management.
  • Establish appropriate environmental design criteria and determine applicable legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the collection and interpretation of baseline environmental information.
  • Assess potential project effects and develop practical mitigation measures.
  • Provide senior technical review and quality assurance of work completed by other team members.
  • Where qualified, act as a QP for air emissions modelling and associated regulatory submissions.

Successfully Deliver Environmental Approvals

You will help clients navigate environmental assessment, permitting, and approvals processes from early project planning through implementation.

Your work may include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Environmental Compliance Approval applications related to air and noise.
  • Contributing to approvals under applicable provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Developing environmental components of project applications and supporting documentation.
  • Working with regulators, clients, technical specialists, and community stakeholders to identify and resolve environmental issues.
  • Supporting projects through design, construction, and operational phases to ensure environmental commitments are appropriately incorporated.

Lead Multidisciplinary Environmental Assignments

You will act as an environmental lead on projects where environmental requirements must be effectively integrated with engineering and project design.

Success will require you to:

  • Coordinate environmental specialists and engineering disciplines.
  • Translate regulatory and environmental requirements into practical project design criteria.
  • Identify potential environmental risks early enough to influence project decisions.
  • Manage scope, schedules, resources, deliverables, and technical quality.
  • Produce clear, concise, technically defensible reports and recommendations.
  • Contribute to technical specifications, tender packages, cost estimates, and other project documentation where required.

Become a Trusted Advisor to Clients

You will develop a strong understanding of your clients' businesses, projects, and environmental challenges and become someone they rely upon for practical technical advice.

You will be expected to:

  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Identify emerging client needs and environmental challenges.
  • Develop practical solutions that combine strong environmental science and engineering with an understanding of project realities.
  • Contribute to proposals, project scoping, and new opportunities.
  • Use your existing professional relationships while developing new relationships within the mining, energy, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.

Help Grow the Environmental Practice

Beyond delivering your own projects, you will contribute to building the capabilities and reputation of the environmental team.

This will include:

  • Identifying opportunities to expand air quality and related environmental services.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across other technical disciplines and geographic locations.
  • Supporting resource and workforce planning.
  • Sharing technical knowledge and best practices across the organization.
  • Recruiting, mentoring, and developing environmental professionals.
  • Helping emerging professionals build the technical judgement and consulting skills required to take on increasingly complex assignments.

What You Bring

Your exact background may vary, but you will likely have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geoscience, or another relevant discipline.
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience, ideally supporting mining, energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
  • A current Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation.
  • Strong technical experience in air emissions, air quality assessment, modelling, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with Ontario Regulation 1/17 and air quality impact assessments conducted under applicable environmental assessment legislation.
  • Experience preparing or supporting environmental approvals and regulatory submissions.
  • The ability to independently lead technical assignments and provide senior review of work completed by others.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and contributing to business development.
  • The ability to lead and mentor environmental professionals while working effectively with engineering and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A practical understanding of how environmental requirements affect project planning, engineering, construction, and operations.

Experience with environmental assessment, environmental permitting, environmental due diligence, noise assessment, or other environmental modelling would be considered an asset.
