Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include:

Create and construct patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting.
Operate light machinery, including: brake presses, shears, cutting torches, and grinders.
Layout reference points and patterns on heavy metals according to the templates/blueprints.
Assemble, fit and weld metal sections and plates to create complete units or subunits.
Install fabricated components in the final product.
Preheat work pieces to render them malleable.
Monitor quality of fabrication and production.
Sets up and operates heavy machine tools, such as: radial drill, end mill and edge planer.
Monitor materials usage and report on any material issues.
Maintain a working knowledge of changes in fabricating compliance, practices and techniques.
Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations, participate in identifying hazards.
Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to assess materials needed, and plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Effectively and efficiently prioritize daily work.
Accurately complete of work orders and time cards.
May be asked to cross train on other/all functions at facility.
Other assigned work as required.

You Possess

Interprovincial Red Seal or Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) tickets (minimum C ticket).
Completion of either a 3-4 year apprenticeship or have accumulated 4+ years of experience in the trade.
Must pass physical to ensure bonafide job requirements can be fulfilled.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
Able to work well under pressure.
Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Must speak, read and write in English.
Strong safety mindset.
