Location: Markham Department: High-Speed IO Core Development

Position Overview

Amphenol is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Co-op student to support the design and development of front-end I/O connectors used in next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) platforms.

This role provides hands-on exposure to high-speed connectivity solutions, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal design considerations. The Co-op will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real product development programs supporting advanced compute architectures.

Key Responsibilities Design & Engineering Support
  • Assist in the design and development of high-performance front-end I/O connectors for AI/ML applications.
  • Support CAD modeling and drawing creation using tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Contribute to design activities focused on signal integrity, mechanical reliability, and thermal performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing) to support product integration.
Testing & Validation
  • Support the execution of electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of connector designs.
  • Help collect, organize, and analyze test data to identify performance trends and issues.
  • Assist in preparing test reports and documenting validation results.
  • Participate in lab activities and prototype evaluations.
Project & Documentation Support
  • Assist engineers in tracking project timelines, deliverables, and design iterations.
  • Maintain organized engineering documentation, including drawings, test results, and reports.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in development workflows and documentation practices.
Customer & Application Exposure
  • Gain exposure to customer requirements and application use cases in AI/ML hardware systems.
  • Support preparation of materials for design reviews, prototypes, and technical discussions.
  • Assist in translating customer needs into engineering inputs under guidance.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
  • Completed at least the 2nd or 3rd year of study (preferred).
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals and mechanical design principles.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to high-speed signaling concepts or electronics hardware.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, HFSS).
  • Interest in data center hardware, AI/ML infrastructure, or high-performance computing.
  • Experience with hands-on lab work, prototyping, or testing.
What You’ll Gain
  • Direct experience in cutting-edge connector development for AI/ML systems.
  • Exposure to real-world engineering workflows from concept to validation.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers in high-speed interconnect design.
  • Opportunity to contribute to next-generation computing platforms.
