About Nasittuq

Nasittuq is a proudly Canadian company supporting critical operations across Canada's North. Guided by our core values of Safety, Diversity, Integrity, Social Responsibility, Environmental Stewardship, and Agility, we aim to create a workplace where employees can thrive and make a meaningful contribution.

Where You Will Be Working

This position may be based either at the North Warning System Support Centre (NWSSC) in North Bay, or at the Contract Management Office (CMO) in Ottawa. Both locations play a critical role in supporting operations across Canada's North and Arctic regions.

In keeping with our commitment to northern communities and Indigenous employment, priority consideration will be given to qualified Inuit beneficiaries, including those enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, Inuvialuit Final Agreement, and Nunatsiavut Land Claims Agreement. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify.

Why This Role

The Buyer plays a key role in supporting the North Warning System, one of Canada's most critical northern infrastructure networks. Based in either Ottawa, Ontario or North Bay, Ontario, this position is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and services that support operations across Canada's North and Arctic regions. Working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, the Buyer helps maintain operational readiness by securing high-quality goods and services that deliver the best value while ensuring compliance with contractual and procurement requirements. This is an opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical program while collaborating with a diverse team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do

  • Review, approve, and recommend purchase orders for operational requirements, project-related Task Authorizations, and sealift activities while ensuring compliance with company policies and procurement best practices.
  • Support the Contracts Department in the development and administration of RFQs, RFPs, and Standing Offer Agreements, including evaluation of submissions, award recommendations, implementation, and ongoing agreement management.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations, audits, and corrective action activities while maintaining accurate vendor selection and performance documentation.
  • Identify and support system improvements related to purchasing and inventory management processes, coordinating updates and corrective actions as required.
  • Coordinate the procurement of materials and equipment for sealift and project activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, particularly northern vendors, ensuring effective communication and successful procurement outcomes.
  • Ensure materials requiring specialized handling are shipped and delivered in accordance with applicable WHMIS, TDG, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Contribute to special projects and perform additional duties as required to support business objectives, the North Warning System mission, and organizational initiatives.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of PMAC Level 2 (or equivalent supply chain designation coursework) is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of purchasing, procurement, materials management, logistics, or supply chain experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles, purchasing practices, and vendor management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and with external suppliers.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments and building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Maximo, Oracle, or other ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Project management experience or knowledge is considered an asset.
