Job description

MATRIX is a national company providing camps, logistics, and aviation management services to clients in the resource and service sectors. With 20 years in business, we operate drug- and alcohol-free, employ over 250 people annually, and offer strong career advancement opportunities across a range of skill sets. This role supports a mine construction and quarrying project at a remote site near Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut.

Position: Crusher Operator (Mobile Crushing – Metso)

Location: Remote site near Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut

Job Summary: Operate and maintain a Metso mobile crusher and associated crushing plant components to support mine construction activities. Ensure safe, efficient production, accurate reporting, and adherence to project schedules.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, and optimize mobile crushing and screening plants (, Metso Lokotrack) for efficient production.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on crushers, screens, belts, hydraulics, and electrical systems (greasing, screen changes, belt repairs).
  • Relocate tracked units within quarries/pits to minimize haul distances and optimize mobility.
  • Manage material flow: ensure consistent feed to the crusher, prevent jams, and optimize production rates.
  • Complete crushing reports and other required documentation accurately.
  • Identify and communicate production or equipment issues to supervisors; participate in problem-solving.
  • Conduct safety-focused daily inspections and maintain equipment in a clean, organized state.
  • Perform general plant duties as part of the production team (, loading, shipping, light fabrication, maintenance) as needed.
  • Operate heavy machinery in support of plant operations when required.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members (verbal, written, and listening).

Working Conditions:

  • The job is in a mining/stone crushing environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity, high noise levels, moving parts, and potential chemical or dust exposure.
  • Regularly stand, sit, climb stairs/ladders, work on elevated platforms, bend, crawl, and stretch; work may be outdoors and during inclement weather.
  • May lift up to 50 lb (23 kg) and perform physical tasks in tight spaces.
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE): hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and additional gear (respirator, gloves, protective clothing) as required by law and site policy.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years with mobile crushing equipment; Metso experience preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment used to feed crushers (, excavator, wheel loader, skid steer).
  • Strong understanding of crushing technologies, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.
  • Physical/Shift Requirements: Ability to work 12-hour shifts (day/night) in harsh weather conditions.
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license.

Required Competencies:

  • Safety-first mindset with adherence to PPE, lockout/tagout, and environmental compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and situational awareness.
  • Effective communication, team collaboration, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Benefits

$700-$800 per day, based on a 12 hour day, depending on experience, certifications and skill set.

This job will be required to fly in and out of the project job site from either Edmonton Alberta, or Yellowknife, NWT.

There is a travel allowance payable based on the successful candidates point of hire.

4 weeks in, 2 weeks out rotation.
