At TreowGroup Recruitment, we are seeking an experienced and reliable 1st Press Operator to join our client’s team in Hamilton, ON.

If you are a skilled sheetfed printing press professional who takes pride in precision, consistency and leadership on the press floor, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

The 1st Press Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of our 40”+ sheet-fed offset presses, to produce high-end print products that meet strict quality standards within established timeframes. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead press operations ensuring smooth production runs, troubleshooting issues and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

In this role, you will receive:
  • Compensation: A base salary of $52,000-$69,000 commensurate with experience.

Your Day-to-Day will include:
  • Set up and operate sheet-fed offset presses to meet production targets and quality standards
  • Install plates and configure ink, dampening, feeder, and delivery systems
  • Maintain accurate color matching and registration throughout press runs
  • Monitor press performance and make mechanical adjustments as needed
  • Troubleshoot and resolve print and mechanical issues to minimize downtime and waste
  • Accurately record production data using press consoles and control systems
  • Maintain press cleanliness and support preventative maintenance standards
  • Act as a safety leader by following and enforcing all health and safety policies
  • Complete required safety inspections, reports, and training
  • Support teamwork, leadership, and continuous improvement on the production floor
What Makes You a Great Fit?
  • High school diploma required; technical training preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience operating sheet-fed offset presses as a lead pressman
  • Proven experience running multi-colour (4–6 color) work with coatings
  • Experience printing on a wide range of substrates, including board stock, coated, uncoated, and specialty papers
  • Background in high-end commercial print or specialty print products
  • Strong proficiency in press setup including plate mounting, cylinder configuration, ink fountain presetting, feeder and delivery setup, registration, and color matching
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills of print defects including ink/water imbalance, ghosting, hickeys, slur, doubling, set-off, sheet marking, feeding issues, and registration drift
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets and production specifications
  • Basic math skills and a cost-conscious mindset
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs during an 8-hour shift
  • Flexibility to work occasional casual overtime to meet production deadlines.
