Salary: $38,000 - $42,000 depending on experience

Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper to manage the financial operations of our synagogue. This role is essential in ensuring the integrity of our financial records, compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing timely and accurate financial information to support decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monthly Reconciliations: Reconcile all bank accounts and credit card transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness. Oversee the recording and reconciliation of member contributions, donations, and pledges.
• Payroll Administration: Manage payroll processing using Ceridian software, including remittances and year-end reporting.
• Payments: Manage payments to vendors and contractors, ensuring proper documentation and timely disbursement.
• Asset Management: Record and track fixed assets, calculate and post depreciation entries.
• Leave Tracking: Maintain accurate records of staff vacation leave balances and usage.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with CRA requirements, including issuing tax receipts, preparing and filing T4s, and submitting GST rebate claims.
• General Ledger Management: Capture all journal entries through to trial balance, ensuring accurate and timely posting of financial transactions.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements for review by leadership and the board.
• Budget Support: Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor actuals against budget throughout the year.
• Working with programming team to actively track different expenses and revenues on a project-by-project basis.
• Audit support: Lead the year-end close process, including final reconciliations, accruals, and reporting to the board and auditors. Maintain lead schedules and reconciliations to support external audits and CRA reviews.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles. • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Ceridian payroll systems is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and CRA regulations.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
• Experience in a non-profit organization is an asset.
