Job description

Human Resources Manager
Scarborough, ON
$75,000 – $90,000 + Bonus

Our client, a well-established, family-owned food manufacturing company with over 80 years of success, is seeking an HR Manager to join their team.

This is a key leadership role within the organization, created as part of a planned retirement. The successful candidate will step into a position that has been instrumental in shaping the company’s people practices and culture.

Step Into a True HR Leadership Role

This is an opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take full ownership of the HR function within a manufacturing environment.

As the sole HR leader on-site, you will be responsible for all aspects of HR, from employee relations and recruitment to training, compliance, and strategic initiatives. You will be the go-to resource for leaders and employees alike, with the autonomy to shape and elevate HR practices across the business.

About the Opportunity

This is a highly hands-on role in a manufacturing environment, where building trust and credibility with long-tenured employees is essential.

Employee relations will be a significant focus, requiring someone who is approachable, patient, and confident in managing challenging conversations and driving change where needed.

There is strong opportunity to introduce new initiatives, improve existing processes, and bring a more structured and proactive approach to HR.

You will also play a key role in supporting leaders with performance management, including annual reviews, and in delivering training on HR best practices, legislation updates, and health and safety.

This role is fully on-site in Scarborough, with no travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the HR function as the sole HR resource on-site
  • Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution and performance concerns
  • Support recruitment and selection across the organization
  • Partner with leaders on performance management, including annual reviews
  • Develop and deliver training on HR policies, legislation, and health and safety
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and evolving legislation
  • Drive HR initiatives to improve processes, engagement, and overall effectiveness
  • Oversee compensation, benefits administration, and vendor coordination (including outsourced payroll)

What We’re Looking For

  • CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent HR designation
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an HR Manager role within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry is preferred
  • Strong employee relations experience
  • Confident, approachable, and able to influence without authority
  • Comfortable operating as a standalone HR leader with full ownership
  • Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting performance management and leadership development
  • Patient, resilient, and able to navigate resistance to change

Why This Role

This role offers the opportunity to step into a well-established organization and take full ownership of HR during a meaningful transition.

For someone who enjoys being hands-on, building relationships, and driving practical improvements, this is a chance to make a lasting impact while working within a stable, long-standing business.
