Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following; other duties may be assigned.
• Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and other Policies
• Determine, understand and verify the function and mechanics of assigned projects
• Review initial concept with sales, project manager, customer and supervisor, as required
• Formulate machine design in CAD using simple, efficient and cost effective processes
• Specify and obtain quotes for specialized purchased equipment
• Source and qualify all purchased mechanical, sensing, pneumatic and hydraulic components
• Compile Sequence of Operations, I/O List, Pneumatic BOM and Valve Bank Layout
• Work with assigned detailer to complete and check drawing package
• Responsible for checking and releasing BOM to Purchasing
• Work with assigned programmer to create working program
• Respond to questions from machine shop and assembly during building of machine
• Work with machine builder throughout the debugging phase
• Review marked up drawings, and work with assigned detailer to update complete drawing package
• Stores data (specifications, quotes, estimates, drawings etc.) according to Samuel standards
• Able to perform all above duties in a timely manner and in an ISO 9001 environment
• Mentor Junior and Intermediate level Mechanical Designers


Position Requirements: (Knowledge, Skill, Ability)
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
• Ability to work at advanced levels of design complexity
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to proficiently use CAD and current office computer software
• Must be creative, have a mechanical aptitude and think and visualize in 3 dimensions
• Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and internal team members


Autonomy and Authority
• Work as a fully qualified professional without detailed supervision, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications
• Responsible for the design of complete lines or standalone machines
• Will guide and monitor the work of other engineers or technical staff working within the engineering department or on the same projects
• Provides input to management with respect to the evolution of company and department technical standards and designs

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
• Technologist Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 10 years of Mechanical Design experience or equivalent
• Valid Passport and driver’s license may be required, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally

Special Requirements (physical demands and work environment):
The employee occasionally will spend time in an environment where he/she is exposed to medium to high noise levels and where safety glasses and adequate shoes are essential.

The expected compensation range for this position is $42.70-$58.60. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth
