Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role involves setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to produce high-precision components, primarily for aerospace, nuclear, and medical device applications. You will interpret complex blueprints, apply GD&T principles, and perform basic troubleshooting on your own equipment. In addition to running your own machines, you will lead a team of machinists on the shop floor, ensuring quality, safety, and productivity standards are consistently met.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes independently, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and program selection.
  • Operate CNC milling machines as the primary equipment, while also working with lathes and turning centers as required.
  • Lead and mentor a team of 5 or more machinists while simultaneously operating your own machines.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect parts and verify dimensions.
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet tight tolerances and critical feature requirements.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on CNC machines to resolve quality or performance issues.
  • Work with G-code and M-code to understand and adjust CNC programs as needed for optimal performance.
  • Machine components for aerospace, nuclear, and medical device applications in accordance with industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with other team members and leadership to meet production targets and continuous improvement goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of CNC machinist experience.
  • Hands-on experience with both milling and lathe operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of consistent blueprint reading experience in previous roles.
  • Proven experience applying GD&T in a production machining environment.
  • Experience working within aerospace, nuclear, or medical device manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to set up CNC mills and lathes independently, including tooling and workholding.
  • Ability to perform basic CNC machine troubleshooting without supervision.
  • Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Familiarity with G-codes and M-codes and how they relate to CNC machine operation.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills to effectively guide a group of machinists.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience on both mills and lathes increases eligibility for multiple roles within the shop.
  • Formal machinist ticket or certification is an asset.
  • CNC programming experience is a strong advantage.
  • Experienced in precision machining for regulated industries such as aerospace, nuclear, or medical devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading others.
