Job Title : Machinist Job Description

As a Machinist, you will be responsible for installing tooling on numerically controlled equipment to machine parts to exacting tolerances. You will follow program instructions and diagrams to set up fixtures and determine the sequence of operations. Selecting and loading appropriate part programs for machine runs is essential, as is maintaining accurate transactions in the ERP system. You will make necessary adjustments to equipment and programs, load and unload parts, and monitor operations to ensure proper machine functioning. Checking parts periodically during operations to verify conformance to specifications and assisting in equipment maintenance are also key duties. You must be able to read and interpret blueprints and may be required to train other employees and assist in other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Install tooling on numerically controlled equipment to machine parts to exacting tolerances.
  • Follow program instructions and diagrams for setting fixtures and outlining tooling.
  • Select and load appropriate part programs for machine runs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely transactions in the ERP system.
  • Make needed adjustments to equipment and programs.
  • Load and unload parts to and from machines, ensuring proper machine functioning.
  • Check parts periodically during operations to verify conformance to specifications using precision measuring devices.
  • Assist in maintaining and servicing equipment as directed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Train other employees and help in other departments as required.
  • Initiate action to prevent problems and document quality issues.

Essential Skills

  • 1-3 years of related experience as a CNC machinist.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to follow blueprints and tooling sheets.
  • Capability to make minor adjustments to programs.
  • Experience with CNC setup and machining.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Milling or Turning experience.
  • Open to occasional overtime with specific shifts on weekends.
  • Forklift experience is preferred; training available.
  • Gear cutting experience is advantageous.

    Work Environment

    The work environment consists of an 80,000 sqft facility that is very clean, with machines spread across the shop. The space includes a half machine shop and half assembly area, 3 paint booths, an enclosed welding shop, and bright lunch and training rooms. The company is environmentally conscious. You will work directly with a team of 12 to 30 machinists, reporting to a lead and supervisor. The second shift is smaller, consisting of about 12 people. The role starts as a contract with potential for extension, with shifts in the afternoon preferred but with training on morning shifts. The afternoon shift runs from 2 : 00 pm to 12 : 00 am, Monday to Thursday, including paid lunch and coffee breaks.
